In these days of getting flashed at every time you leave your driveway, who's accumulated the most points on their licence?

Surely a better measure would be points gained over years driving, arriving at a points per year, er, score.

But how about how many of us have gotten away with ridiculously stoopid speeds only to get done for doing 60mph in a 50mph limit on a single carriageway?

I think this is the better way to penalise people as it seems to only get you when you are breaking the lower speed limits rather than the motorway speeds.

Thats the only two tickets I have:
1 in 1999 for 64 in a 50
1 pending for 61 in a 50 - they're getting stricter it seems.

OK, not too bad at the moment but 1995 was fairly spectacular for me:

Here goes:

17-03-95 SP50 14 day ban
14-05-95 SP50 3 points
16-07-95 SP50 3 points
31-03-96 SP50 3 points
30-11-98 SP60 3 points

So, by the end of this month, in theory, I will be clean - for the first time in 10 years!

I have a clean license. Nil points. Nil fines. Nil convictions. Touch wood....

However, have been caught and let off with:

37 in a 30 ( Gun )

100+ on a dual carriageway (Followed)

But these were both 6/7 years ago when I had just passed my test.. And the law said you were allowed to own AND drive your car as opposed to just paying as many taxes on it as poss then leaving it in the garage

Ok here's mine

Got 3 points in April for 59.82 in a 30. BTW 3 o'clock in morning, dual carrigeway, empty, ahh!!!!!!!!!!!
(A34 between Cheadle and Manchester Rugby Club if anyone knows it.) Pig said if i'd been doing 60 I would have gone to court. There used to be one of those camera things there that told you how fast you were going, Best I ever saw was 115 in a mates Subaru!

3 pts pending for Red light jumping on same sodding road! This time at lights just off the M60 (Kingsway junction). Camera, NIP in post, very shocked to say the least when I got it. F**k.

This time I will be going to court. Oh and then have to retake my test. S**t.

None as yet (thank god - I'm already paying £4k in insurance)
However court summonses for car I haven't owned for over a year for: No insurance, 43 in a 30, Illegal plates, driving without due care and attention. I really want to get my hands on the little B*$tard who bought the damn thing but, of course, the DVLA don't have an address. Hopefully the police might get their hands on him ??? (Not in Notts. of course)
In all seriousness, if anyone else has had this problem how did you get plod, DVLA etc. off your back ? I've got a receipt from the garage I flogged it to, sent receipts to DVLA, plod and insurers but it doesn't seem to have sunk in yet. (sorry this is off thread, but it's really worrying me)

You lucky person. I got a summons, 6 points and a £180 fine exactly 5 years ago (to the day!) for 58 in a 30 on a dual carriageway. Sounds the same to me, why the inconsistency

Went to visit an old friend of mine last year. He says. So, Don, how many points have you got on your licence then. I say, 'None'. He says to me: "You own a TVR and a Porsche. You just AREN'T TRYING!".

He has 9 and an Evo 6!

Only 8 points at the moment, but ...

Way back when I was an RD250 pilot, I managed to accumulate 12 endorsements - this was before the points system. At a conservative average of 3 points per endorsement, that would have been 36 points! I was banned four times in succession for 6 months each to run consecutively.

One magistrate told me she felt it was her "civic duty to keep me off the road as long as possible"! Pompous arse!

Only one of those endorsements was for speeding. The rest were for riding without L plates, carrying passengers, and towards the end riding without insurance - no one would insure me.

I'm a good boy now, honest!

Hmm. Seems as if when we go fast deliberately, we get away with it most of the time.

When we go fast inadvertantly, we get caught, more often than not.

Maybe a lesson to be learned from this?

No points ever over here but accumulated 7 points in 4 months in the US.

They were mostly for speeding, but I got 1 point and a $12.50 fine for not carrying my driving license on me!! My thoughts at the time were, Why bother?

Matt.

12 (though all come off in Jan)

I wont try and justify them (two lots of 6 for speeding) but if anyone knows the Hertingfordbury Road as you come out of Hertford towards Hatfield they'll probably understand.....

(oh and no ban for 'special reasons'

agreed. I've just been flashed by a Gatso doing 60 where there's 50.

I just can't believe it. I drive past the bloody thing 4 times a day every day!!!!

I got a fixed penalty for the same a week after i passed my test. But as my license was on the way i couldnt take the 3 so i ended up with 4. [Roadside Radar Gun]

3 for a red light. I would swear it was amber but thats not really an excuse. [Marked Car]

3 points for 72 in a 50. late night dual carrigeway. [Unmarked Cop]

?? (prob 6) for 78 in a 50. Late night 3 lane dual carrigeway. Still waiting to get license back from DVLA. Was totally stiched up for this one but only had circumstantial proof and not the time/money to object in court [Marked Car VASCAR]

got let off with 110 on a quiet m-way tho so all is not lost

I got caught on the M1 at 12:30 at night in a new Celica doing 115mph. A beautiful 2 month ban and £120 fine!

I've just recieved a Gatso thing in the post for doing 55 in a 40 zone! I'll probably get 3 points and a fine for that I reckon! Not a bad piccy of my Tiv though!

Chortle ! yes I do. A wonderful set of curves at certain speeds. Before I became more sensible I was doing 150+ on that exact road.

A helicopter scared me one day, and I stopped doing it !

Before anyone says "oohh 150, that's too fast", it was empty, it was dry, and the only person at risk was me. No side roads either. But I agree, it was naughty. And I don't speed in town. SO there.

Would have thought that you would not have the PC brigade after you for that comment Hertsbiker. You do have a petrol sniffing audience here....

But then again - no one ever speeds, its against the law and that would be wrong... NOT.

Cheers,

Paul
