Just had my time completely wasted by what must be the most patronising Police Officer I have ever come across. Took the bike out to keep the battery charged and to put some air in the tyres. Stopped in a layby on the A404M between High Wycombe and Marlow. Was doing 75-ish and saw the jam sandwich from a long way back, so backed off to less than 70. Pulled over and waited fuming while the copper pored over the bike, looking for the slightest defect. Eventually given a lecture on the dangers of riding motorcycles on icy roads (I've been on bikes continuously for 17 years), advised to keep my speed down (it was obvious that I hadn't been caught exceeding) and then given a producer.

Is there some way of complaining about unnecessary harassment? Further down the layby were a middle aged couple hanging around a broken down MGB. Couldn't stop myself from suggesting to the policeman that, as a public servant, he would be better employed providing assistance to people in need than wasting his time and mine when no offence has been committed.

Which probably has ensured he'll be looking out for me in future...

So, the police were obviously full of seasonal good spirit! If they want to help the citizenship perhaps they could bugger off to London to help cut down the number of muggings - 168 per DAY at the last count!

I give up.

I'm normally very open minded about the Police (I have friends in the Met) but sounds like the one you met was an @rse.

What a waste of your time (and his!)

And Blair wants some silly number of new bobby's on the beat! Simple, instead of recruiting new officers, take the existing ones off the bloody roads!!!

Well said, but please don't give up just keep saying it over and over on every forum you can think of and eventually the politicians will get the message.

Happy new year

that's exactly the sort of behaviour that gets up my nose. I've had loads of these "producer only" stops. What a pointless waste of time. Oh, and happy new year everyone!

It means you've got to "produce" your MOT and Insurance documents to a Police Station within 7 days.. ..a complete waste of time that actually means:
"I can't nick you for anything/you've done nothing wrong, but I'm pissed of with you/life so I'm going to exert my superior authority over you anyway and waste your time"

Cheers,

Had a similar thing a long time ago on New Years Day.

An officer who was quite obviously p*ssed off at having to be at work stopped me on my bike doing 40 in a 50 limit. He claimed I had been speeding and that he had been doing in excess of 90mph to catch me up. My wife and I denied this. When we received a summons the officer was claiming speeds in excess of 110mph in pursuit. I got a solicitor, took it to court. The officer contradicted himself several times in giving evidence, and though I was found guilty and got 3 points, I got a nominal fine of £30, so the magistrates were not convinced. Despite his Inspector presenting the case.

We can only hope that ars*holes like this get caught out eventually and lose their jobs.

It hadn't occurred to me that the guy may have been looking for someone to take his frustrations out on due to being on duty at this time of the year.

I've calmed down a bit now - but I'll definitely take up the issue with whoever I present my documents to tomorrow.

I suppose it's a matter of taking the rough with the smooth - I was sent on my way sanction free in mid summer after being caught doing a very silly speed indeed on a deserted Bodmin Moor (and that was what I'd managed to get my speed down to). Couldn't have complained if I'd been unable to ride or drive since due to a continuing ban. The officer in question turned out to be a biker and sent me on my way with a friendly flea in my ear.

I've had a produce outside my own house (caught with malicious intent to put my car in my garage). Spent 20mins in the back of his car whilst he ran a check to see if the car was stolen and why I had stopped earlier to talk to some local kids (16yr olds). I explained that I knew them and was enquiring how their exams had gone and that keeping friendly terms with the local lads helps keep your car "watched for and not vandalised". He then asked for a produce and wouldn't wait for me to go inside my house and fetch them.

I complained to the officer behind the desk on producing my documents, but whether it went any further I don't know.

Most police do a good job in sh*tty situations but bad apples like this and above don't help their public image.

You have my admiration, you must be a saint. I know if that happened to me the bugger would get dragged into the house and made to wait for my documents.

What happens if you fail to produce your documents? If there's no charge, and thus no paperwork, who cross-checks that you've attended the local nick? I can't imagine the surly coppers in these scenarios would bother?

They fill in a form at the time, and its processed. You get 7 days to produce then its an offense and fine for failure to show.
