Just tax'd online am I ok to drive or not?
Discussion
Hello all I've just tax'd me classic online after a few beers to take the pain of the tax increase away.
Now am I ok to drive it tomorrow or am I still in dry dock till the tax disk arrives est next wed?? I have the email confirming purchase etc. If I print this off am I covered or will I bepulled by some bib upping his numbers for the day?
If I will be pulled I'll leave it till it arrives If now I HAVE PAID FOR IT I'm ok then I'd like to stuff a few miles up the old girl over the weekend.
Definitive answers please guys.
Olly

Right then bar my grammer, which I am sure was not in the OP as a question. The car in question is in fact SORN so I take it as red that I need to wait till the disk actually arrives in the post then before I go for a run in her.
correctDid they let you tax it from the beginning of July or August?
It's much easier and useful at a PO - but youve probably realised that now

You'll be OK on the databases, so probably no ANPR tugs, and those are answerable with the printed receipt.
You're still guilty of the completely separate offence of failing to display, which is an absolute offence.
If you drive, don't park in a left-wing council area, and don't annoy young policemen.

k it I'll just wait till the disk arrives next week.
As far as the post office goes I do not have time hence the online app.
I'll just wait I'm in no hurry so it's not a real issue I'd preffer to be totally legal hence I asked on here. The wording when you apply is a little loose and I have conflicting info as yes it's ok prividing you have the print out but thats for a continuation of tax. From sorn you are better to tax in the Post office but i'm in noe rush she's tax'd now so all good. I'll drive her when it arrives cheers guys.

I wouldn't wait. The only law you'd be breaking is failure to display which I personally wouldn't worry about, I'd take the printed proof of purchase & if that wasn't good enough I'd except the fine. Also, you've paid from the first of the month & not from when the disc turns up.
It would of been better if you'd have gone to the post office.

I have not received the tax disc. Can I use the vehicle without the tax disc displayed?
When you apply for a tax disc online or by using our phone service you are able to legally continue to drive your vehicle for up to 5 days after the tax disc has expired while you wait for the new tax disc to arrive. This will only apply when you have applied for a new tax disc before the current one expires. You should continue to display the expired disc on your vehicle, until the new one arrives.

It won't be any where near the crusher or the road for that matter. I'm not in any hurry to use it it's only me old Datsun so it'll barely be used any way. Just decided last night that her sitting doing F all was silly so a few beers later I was online paying over the odds tax for a car that will hardly use the roads. (pot hole infested roads at that!)
So in a nut shell the rules are if you are continuing your road tax then as long as you have bought it before the end of your tax disc month your ok to continue to drive. If like me your taxing from SORN then you need to wait till the disk arrives as the print out of purchase is not, by itself able to tax your vehicle.
Now all in all thats fine thanks for the help guys.

And to add , -taxed mine,Wednesday ,mid afternoon ,and I've been keeping tabs on this site www.taxdiscdirect.gov.uk/evlpotral/app with make & reg to see if it came up -usually does within a day/two .So when no sign phoned them up , to find that's the system for us ,it shows up ok on the one BIB use ,but what happens if it don't turn up in five days ??
