Anyone got COD 3 yet
Discussion
My copy is on order from Play Asia, but the reviews are very favourable, basically expect more of the same from COD2, but with better graphics and a much improved multiplayer aspect. As I spent most of the Christmas holidays last year shaking the house down with the surround sound cranked up to 11 I can't wait.

I'm annoyed they're not doing a PC version. I refuse to play first-person-shooters using a console's gamepad. FPSes are designed for mouse/keyboard control.
It's surprisingly easy once you get used to it, you don't have the perfect precision of a mouse and keyboard, but COD2 was perfectly suited to the pad and felt very slick throughout.

FPS/Mouse/Keyboard......YAWN.... such an old and antiquated (sp?) arguement. Clearly FPS games are not just designed for keyboard/mouse, Halo proves that, as does COD3. I was a religious PC/FPS/Mouse/Keyboard player, and, in the past, I may have been inclined to agree with you, but, I have no problem using a pad instead nowadays.
Anyway, played COD3 at lunchtime for a bit, LOVED IT, cannot wait to get it on when I get home and really looking forward to a bit of MP tonight
Maybe see some of you later
As with the other COD titles, i set this on hard with no crosshair (the only way to play imho)
and have had a blast so far.Maybe some of the magic has gone i suppose due to having that "been there done that" feeling due to the other COD titles, but if you liked them you should still really enjoy this.
Annoyingly though i have just hit one of those 'set pieces' that i hate in all games.
There are a few of these 'pieces' that tend to really pee me off in games because i see them as lazy programing. To me they are equivalent of using loud noises in horror films to make you jump or feel "scared".
Normaly, after enjoying a superb game that has some realism etc, you come across say, an end of level boss type character who quite bizarely will need EXACTLY 273 bullets/rockets to kill him. This is despite every single person before this only needing one or two shots.
Either that or suddenly you get 4 minutes 27 seconds to do a task and reach an exit, even though there may be no reason at all why that situation exists.
As with the loud bangs in horror films, i'm sure game developers think we are all on the edge of our seats at such moments and are excited beyond belief.
Me, i just want to throw my pad through the screen after the 50th failed attempt and murder the programer.
(wee spoiler below)
So, i am currently welded to the top of a tank with no way of ducking or jumping off and simply must kill exactly xxx amount of soliders who are sitting and shooting at me from xxx locations and i get xxx amount of time to do this quickly or i am dead.Yawn.
The driving set pieces were a little bit like that too.I didn't get time to look around and admire the view much as the instructions suggested, i just had to glue down the throttle and let bullets bounce off me now and again.
Nothing i did really made a difference as to whether i lived or died, i just needed to steer the right way at the right time.
Don't let this put you off though, i just wish these ideas could be dropped in favour of something you have far more control over.
(gears of war wee spoiler)
There is a set piece not far into the game in GOW by the way.Suddenly a clock appears above your head in one section while being chased allowing you only xxx minutes to get out of that area.
The excitement must be overwhelming!!!......but begins to fade on attempt 35.Yawn.
