Based on the ISI game engine, like rFactor, GTR2 etc... You get a load of new BMW M3s plus the Nurburgring Grand Prix circuit to race them on.

I've just tried it, I am very impressed they have done a very good job well up to commercial release.

It sounds fantastic and drives really well too, I've turned all the aids off and it loves to slide and get the back end out especially out of the Ford Kurve (right hander before the run down to the Dunlop kurve hairpin). biggrin

It's very graphics intensive I had to turn things down to high from full to get comfortable frame rates.

A PH challenge beckons I think.

BMW website said:
System Requirements: works on all PCs
Doesn't work on my Mac though - I think they meant "works on all PCs running Windows"

If you have GTR2 you can put the BMW into that and drive/race them on other tracks.

I think so - I've just tried it, albiet on a keyboard (which was shocking) and was very pleased with what I saw.

I'm expecting it to be great when I get it installed at home...

Not loving the engine sound though - prefer 6 cylinder creaminess/rasp...

Just done a few laps - pretty cool. is it the RACE codebase? doesnt feel very r-factor and looks like its got too many new features to be GTR2.

I've dropped it straight into GTR2 and it's exactly the same, it's the same base as GTR2, rFactor and Race with Blimey's own add-ons probably Race originating. If I had time I'd have it in rFactor as well.

Move........

From M3 Gamedata/
Sim_official.gdb and sim_official.txt files - move to desktop and rename Sim_BMWM3 etc.. then copy into GTR2/Gamedata so they do not overwrite the Sim_official files already there.

From M3 gamedata/teams
BMW folder and the 3 BMW files in there into the GTR2/Gamedata/Teams folder. The BMW files are just normal GTR files and don't need to be renamed.

Copy the BMW folder from the sounds folder into the sounds folder of GTR2

Copy the BMW folder from the Talent folder into the Talent folder of GTR2

They will now appear in GTR2 in a new section, only the rev counter, speed needles and gear change indicator don't work, I've yet to find those. All it will need is a couple of graphic files copied across when I find them.

If you have the FIA GT 2007 series added you may want to edit some more files, because currently the M3s race filter inlcudes any class of car with the 2007 catagory. So if you get other cars apart from the M3 appearing when you are in M3 only race mode. This is because the classes line in the M3s CAR files says classes="FULL, 2007" we need to edit this.

Follow the following text editing.

To get a single BMW M3 class running when you are in the M3 selection you have to edit the SIM_BMWM3.GDB file and every CAR file in the gamedata/teams/BMW/BMW M3/BMW Cars folder.

Like this.

So the GDB looks like this at the top (added bit in bold)

Game Name = BMW
Game Filter = AND: FULL
IgnoreTrackFilter

SpecialClasses
{
M3V8 = BMW M3
}

Then edit every CAR file so the classes line (at the bottom of the text) looks like this

classes="FULL, M3V8"

You have to do this with all 16 CAR files. This mean if you choose the BMW M3 class to race you won't get any interloper cars. I have chose M3V8 as no other mod should use it, you can replace it with anything else unique you like.

Someone has packed everything up here - http://rapidshare.com/files/54853434/BMW-M3-Challe...

Same as I did above but it has working dials.

Remove previous files/folders and install this.

Crikey. That's pretty good for a free game. Network play, too! Shame all I have is a keyboard. I look like I have Parkinsons to the other players.
