Replacement Rotary Switches for S1 and S2
Discussion
Every seeking to improve I have been trying to replace the rotary switches on my car but have completly failed to find original replacements.
As you can see the switch is inserted from the front of the dash and held by clips which wear and allow the switch to rotate completly not just the switch bit. The switches are approx 25mm (1") in diameter and search as I might I havent been able to find a replacement of that diameter.
I have found however these
but the diameter is only 12mm but with a pair of nylon washers they will clamp onto the dash
I have painted the one which will be seen black (I was lucky to get 5 samples for free but black nylon washers are available but in 50's. The inner washer should be glued or fibre glassed to the back of the dash I think.
To complete the job I got a sheet of decals, cut out the appropriate ones and stuck them on on the switch faces
Switches are from Europa part number 65603 or Polevolt, decals from Car Builder Solutions page 59

Are those originals off a Vauxhall, look like ones i had on an old Nova / Astra back in the late 80's. Should be a few kicking around the scrap yards?
Nice replacement ones though.
Paul
I think they are vauxhall, old headlight switch had 2 positions and you pulled it out to turn on interior light. Norman does the old switch pull out? Nice replacement ones though.
Paul
The heater blower switch in my old 82 astra also was this style, but I think it also had a light in the middle and you pulled it out to turn on heated rear window.
Jeez I remember some useless info.

Spoke to a guy at Racetech about some aluminum versions he said if i could get one of the rotary switches to him he'd get them made.
He also mentioned aluminum handbrake handle & gear knob for the earlier S models were being made by racetech for anyone looking to replace old tatty ones

Will these will be embellishments to cover the existing plastic knob?To actually replace the knob looks like the switch would have to come apart and to make a complete switch is presumably not feasible?
May be Mr Thong would donate his "empty" switch as a pattern

Hmm im not entirely sure, i guess a cover would be sufficient but maybe the rotary section can come away from the switch for a full aluminiumun replacement rotary knob?To actually replace the knob looks like the switch would have to come apart and to make a complete switch is presumably not feasible?

I'll get in contact with racetech again & maybe we could get that switch over to him & see what he comes up with

If you're going to modify the existing knob why not just fit a modern one as above and have done with it? As mentioned above, it will have a more secure fitting and will probably be better made.Nothing is impossible, give time/money, but maybe consider how much it would cost to turn an aluminium knob from scratch.

yeah that is a good point, they do look neat. I cant remember if it was on evilbay or not but i remember seeing someone had used these on a S too? Nothing is impossible, give time/money, but maybe consider how much it would cost to turn an aluminium knob from scratch.
