Been in the garage today, painting the chassis (still)on the 350i.Taking ages..anyway i have bought a more powerful light so it's much easier to see.
Well whilst having a shufty about underneath as you do i was studying the outriggers even more closely than usual. This time i noticed that the offside outrigger (just behind the piece of metal where the bodywork sill is rivetted to the floor) HAD been repaired/ plated over in the past. It's also covered in waxoyl so making it difficult to notice previously. Anyway a small piece of metal had lifted slightly. I thought uh oh..so i got a screw driver and investigated further. The piece of metal lifted (with some force) and uncovered some rust beneath!! I scraped the worst away..and then..B******s!! Screw driver pushed a hole straight into the outrigger
Don't know how long i just laid there? I think i must have contemplated every scenario in less than 2 seconds. FECK...!!!!
I don't know...sell it, burn it, ignore it. All i want to do is drive it. One step forward, 3 back.
There you go..fed up

It's not as bad as you think Wayne. The Outriggers are a pretty straightforward job on a 350. Not 'that' expensive even if they have to re replaced.

i know exactly how you feel. I yesterday, i did a little bit of welding on the front suspension. Little job i thought, but when i re-assembled it and took it for a drive the car was pulling to the left slightly. No prob's thinks i, probably just wants the geometry checking.

Off to austec i go, they check the wheels and guess what? the whole car is pissed. Both nearside wheels have loads of postive camber, both offside have negative

5 hours later and £150 + VAT and the car is square again. No such thing as a simple job on a TVR.

still the drive home made up for it.....

Nick..If the outriggers are to be replaced is that a TVR specialist only job? I guess if welding only is required any reasonable garage will suffice?
Determined to get this bloody car on the road!!

Waynester my man, calm down! It's only a few bits of metal
If you can weld, you can fix it yourself. Look at it this way: whoever 'repaired' it before was a cowboy: you can do a better job (or find a man who can).
My first wedge (S1 Tasmin) had bits of dining room table leg and an old box apanner welded into the sill rails; I ripped the whole lot off and started again. Then I did the 390 for good measure
If I can do it, it MUST be simple

I took the lazy and expensive route !! After discovering that when the car had been written off , the chassis had become deranged so the rot was the least of the problems .
Remortgaged the house , the wife ( Well it is her car!) and sent the Wedge for a "R&R" in Devon from whence she came back like this !

Been there, done that!!!

Like Neil, I took the expensive route of getting Peninsula to do it. To be honest, while it was a lot of money, I'm very glad I did it.

Mine looks the same underneath now as Neils.

Email me if you want more details

Rich.

OK , time to "Fess up " .

Total cost has been £6750 , and for that we got :

Body off
Chassis : corroded parts removed , shot blasted , powder coated and painted (Twice , 'cos neither Richard nor I were happy ) Fire Engine Red per the original .

Powerflex all round
New AVO's all round
New springs all round
Braided brake , clutch and fuel pipes
Grooved discs to rear and " Green stuff" all round
ACT "Superflare's"
Mark Adams "Tornado" and rolling road (215BHP at the wheels)
New carpets
New windscreen
New veneer to instument binacle
Recon tacho
Stainless manifolds and system
Partial respray
JVaughan headlight mod and pods

I think that's about it !!!!!!!!!!!

With the biggest thanks of all to Richard and the guys at Peninsula , they are outstanding .

Can't believe that we want to part with it , but Herr Smith has a Black Tuscan which is soooooooooooo tempting !!

PS : Plus £400 to Tony at "Renowheel" to make the OZ's like mirrors!

Can't recommend Tony at Renowheel highly enough , years of experience with the production "Wolfrace" wheels . The only criticism (If any) is that the wheels are not lacquered after . If I ever get round to doing the SEAC wheels , I will find somewhere to do it post Renowheel

Wayne, can't help but been in the dark days of "oh my god!" land before. When it all comes together its worth it. If its what you want, keep at it and you will love the sunny days to come even more, well, even the rainy days if you drive fast enough.
