My commiserations Emma.
This seems to be an almost weekly thing now - getting home from work in Marlow I always totally avoid the 404 now and get to Handy Cross the back way past Marlow Bottom

Very annoying, I was making good time up until then!

On the plus side I went home round Taplow and the nice roads round there

I'm guessing it might be to do with the roadworks on that roundabout? Although I thought they were due to be finished by now?

Hopefully it'll be ok on Friday Morning as I'm heading that way to go up the M40 to the Autosport show!

Marc, you can always use the B481/B480 from Caversham up to jc6 - keep it quiet though

Yeah, I wondered what was going on too. The police also had the road that approaches the roundabout to get on the A404 at the Marlow junction blocked off from the Marlow side well before the roundabout i.e. preventing traffic from even crossing the roundabout to take the Bourne End road.

I would have thought that if there was an incident on the A404 itself they would have just closed the slip road exits on the roundabout itself? Perhaps it was a problem on the Marlow roundabout that was a danger to the traffic passing under it on the a404?

Just my thoughts!

Yeah, I suspect the Biffa incident is unrelated if the traffic for that was this morning.

OK, had a look at the sign about the 404 road closure for those of you that might be using it to get to Autosport show in Brum.
Looks like it is an overnighter from 22:00 (22:30 maybe) on 12th Jan til 05:30 on 13th

Thanks for finding that out. It looks like I should be okay then, unless I end up coming back very late on Friday! (Hopefully not!)

Basically they are fiddling with the road on this stretch and putting a crosslink through - they've been implementing road closures and it's been affecting the A404 to Marlow as they are putting in a dedicated slip.

I work in travel news and also deal with all the information that comes in from the Highways about this.

More here (it's not that interesting a read)

www.highways.gov.uk/roads/projects/3772.aspx

Hope I've helped.

Are they putting in a slip road on the M40 , noticed lots of excavation going on at the top of the hill around that junction.

Plus why is it called M4 junction 8/9 , did someone not count properly ?
