German property websites

Is there any sort of German equivalent to Rightmove where you can search for properties for sale within a given distance of particular location?

I would really like to live in Germany.
You get value for money on the property you buy, unlike here in the UK where you pay for greed and then get some 2nd rate samllish building in return.


I did have a property magazine that I picked up on a trip to Germany a couple of years back...I will see if I can find it because I remember many website links in it.

Hi Richard where abouts in Germany is it that you would like to live? The prices vary massively dependant upon location. I have lived all over Germany and have a very good over view of the prices and have only this week placed an offer on a house over here. Just to give you an idea of some of the bargains you can find over here have a look here:

Many thanks for the useful links, gives me something to ponder on a wet morning.

Got back from a glorious long weekend at the Nurburgring and I'm seriously thinking of getting a holiday home or flat over there. It just seems such a pleasant part of the World. I could see myself going over there 3-4 times a year so ideally something low maintenance like a flat, but I'd like a garage to be able to leave a car over there to use at the Ring. From what I saw Adenau would be perfect, handy for the Ring and walking distance to plenty of bars, restaurants and shops. Also it seems big enough that there would still be people around outside the tourist season.

The Nurburgring area is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Germany. There are many areas which put most other european countries to shame when it comes to beuty and cleanliness and general atmosphere.

eifel area is great, and quite cheap (compared to us in düsseldorf anyway)
some lovely little towns around there

edit: that immediate area (Kreis - district) is called 'Ahrweiler' and it's in Rheinland-Pfalz, if your searching

Well after nearly a year of searching and 3 trips over there, I've finally put in an offer on a house. Any advice at this point would be great.

Quite exciting as I've been told things move pretty quickly over there, especially as there's no chain involved.

The only pictures I've got are on a PDF file from the agent, and it doesn't allow me to cut and save the images from the file - unless someone knows how? It's been taken off the agent's website too.

I'm over there at the end of this week to sign the contract, so will try and grab a few pics then if possible.

fking hell....! I have just had a look at the links and those prices can't be correct...? They can't be. Either that or I definitely live in the wrong part of Germany. I have ben looking to buy an apartment here in Munich for over a year, and a 100m2 place (with no garden) will set you back more than 450,000€.

And that is just the Kauf preis. On top of that there is the 3.75% agent costs, 3.5% sales tax and 1.5% for the legal guy (can't remember the name).

Thanks. Started off looking at a couple of flats, but by the time I added the cost of buying or renting a garage then this house made a lot more financial sense. For not much more money I've got the extra bedrooms and garaging space for 3 cars currently. Looking to make the room on the left of the garage into another garage bay, and put a 2 post lift in the main garage/workshop bit.

Prices are defo correct;-) as I was seriously looking at buying the second one in the links above, viewed it twice, but found an even better value property which I bought in December. I have lived in Munich and you are right about the prices, I don't remember it being quite that steep though, €450K for 100m2
Legal guy is the Notar. Try to go direct to the sellers and you will save the 3.75% immobillier fees if you buy outside of the contract. You can PM me for more details as you need to be a little careful to avoid falling foul of the law on his front.

Eifel is dirt cheap compared to the main cities, just that there's not a lot of work there I suppose

within reasonable (for London) commuting distance of Koblenz or even Köln though

I don't think you can buy property in Germany for a 'quick buck' investment though, prices just don't rise that much, only the very highest demand cities, and the very best areas within those cities, will get anywhere near 10%

only 44% of Germans own their own homes btw, lowest in the developed world

we bought ours in Düsseldorf a year and a half ago, avoided agent and associated costs
searched for ages for mortgage deals and ended up getting the best deal off my own bank, (Deutsche)
