Why does it need a respray? Accident? been keyed by a bitter exgirlfriend?
Been sprayed previously in an 'individual' flip paint Xibit style?
If the whole car needs doing, you need to look on autotrader at what cars of similar milage and spec are going for then deduct about £4k for the respray.
Short of providing more details that is...

The spec sounds ok . . .

Just because a car hasn't garaged in its life doesn't mean it needs a respray.
What is actually wrong with it ?
What is the service history like ?
Was the running in service done on time ?
Is the car HPI clear ?
Do you have all the documents ?

An M3 has roughly 15k service intervals.
The mileage and the stamps in the book don't tie upto start with.

What else is there ? £12k is very cheap for a straight one unless the seller doesn't knwo anythign about the car. Is it Cat C/D ?

Sound like you have yourself a cheap car, rather than get it all painted I would probably get the bumpers done and get the rest of it mopped/deswirlled and see how it looks before going for a full repaint. Guess it's just had a service every year as opposed to the going by the service indicator. Good luck with it.

Just a thought, how about spending some money on a REALLY GOOD valet, get the paint all buffed up etc. It would be a few quid, but less than an full re-spray... and a valet wont need to be explained when it comes time to sell smile
