Removing scratches on watch glass

Hi guys

I have got some minor verging to medium scratches on my Tag Monaco (McQueen model). I have done a search and found that some people have used Brasso or toothpaste to remove scratches.

Anyone got any advice or does anyone know the actual procedure?
Which is better?
Any risk of making the problem worse?

And equally at the weekend I managed to scratch my glasses; would the same process work on spectacles as well???

yeah used this with exellent results on my speedmaster professional (snoopy), only works on crystal faces though i think. bought it on ebay 3 quid for a tiny tube but lasts ages

Polywatch is great for plastic crystals. It won't touch Saphire though. Also before you go polishing away check you don't have an AR coating on the crystal.

Well your Speedmaster Professional Snoopy doesn't have a Crystal face... it has a plastic one (Hesalite, just like all the other moonwatches ). Polywatch only works on non glass watch faces as the way it works is to gently melt the upper most layer of plastic and then blend in the scratches using the melted particles.

Agree with what your saying though about it's ability to repair a Speedmaster, I used it on a mates and removed a very nasty graze in about 30seconds. Top stuff

IIRC the Monaco has a plastic face, so I would rec. Polywatch (Cotton wool is the best applicator/polisher I have found)

You pair of pedants! I dont think the leather straps or bracelets were tested as the 'moon watch' was on a NASA designed velcro strap.

However, this is a picture of Aldrin wearing his Nasa issue Speedmaster "off mission" and you can clearly see that it has been changed to a bracelet version for civie times...

You can't prove the Cal(1)861 was ever worn on the moon. But are happy to call it a 'moon watch'. The (1)863 is just a tarted up movement with aesthetic differences and sapphire case back. How is it not a "moon watch"? Omega call it a moon watch. Don't they name the watches. Or is the name "moon watch" only for watches worn on the moon? So only a few .321s that are still around. Or is the name "Moon Watch" reserved for just NASA tested models even though the.861 didn't go to the moon. Is the kind of strap or bracelet also now somehow relevent?



The Cal 861 wasn't tested until later and can't be proven to have been worn on the moon, thus can't be called a "Moon Watch" by your logic.



What will you now call All the NASA tested .861s with the multitude of different bracelets that have existed since the tests in the '60s? but never been on the moon?

Pikey.

Hesalite (a brand name of plexiglass) is a very strong plastic used by NASA as although it scratches easily, will not shatter like sapphire. Which is obviously prefferable in a Zero G environment.
