Guys, I've tried searching but not found any old thread - please pm me if you know of one, so I can delete this thread ..........
Anyway, my questions ... so, ignoring cost:-
1. Is it possible to fit 19" rims with a lower profile tyre?
2. Would the bodywork need to be altered even though the rolling radius is the same?
3. Is there any space under the arches (front and/or rear) for an extra inch or half-inch width in the rims?

Yes you can fit 19" wheels. I know one of the previous owners of the silver Spyder fitted them. He had to do a major trawl to find the right profile tyre though to keep the overal diameter the same. Remember, the Spyder/Sport were designed to run 17" rims! IIRC he went back to 18's as the ride got harsh.
Good luck

[quote=J&j]but surely if you calibrate a non-ultima speedo etc then the rolling radius is less of an issue (save for clearance)???
anyway, cheers Paul - may give it a miss and stick with the 18's!

It was clearance issues that required the same overal dia. Good luck with the search.

That to me doesn't look right. It's like trying to squeeze 19s onto an Exige, it can't do any good for anything dynamically, it doesn't sit right, would be more expensive, heavier, harder to get tyres etc.
All in the eye of the beholder of course
have to agree but the beauty of an Ultima is you can do with it what you pleaseAll in the eye of the beholder of course

Dead right ds - the Ultima-TE (TE being Turbo-engined) isn't going to worry about weight too much and as for cost of the rubber ... well ... this aint no lo-cost!All in the eye of the beholder of course

That's not the tire rubbing, it's where we ground it with the grinder for clearance, prior to glassing and finishing that area.It was fairly radical surgery to fit the 19's.
Had to change the headlights as well with shorter ones and then mod the back cover. And mod all 4 wheel wells. There were no sticky wide tires with same dia as the 18's when I last looked. We recently got this car back after a year of track use and saw no serious rubbing issues after the body mods.
IMO, I'd stick to 18's
Thanks

Another old argument that I would like to refresh
In size 19" I can find a lot of modern rubber to wrap around our rims
As already mentioned in another discussion could fit PCD adapters from Porsche 130x5 to 5x112 and use Porsche 997 19" rims with:
19x8.5 et55 235/35R19 and 19x11.5 et67/50 305/30R19
OR
Use Audi R8 rims with spacers PCD are the same (and a different central ring):
19x8.5 et42 235/35R19 and 19x11 et50 305/30R19
I need to change my old tires and I looking around....

by the time you put adapters on and buy the Porsche or audi rims in question you would be 70% or 80% of the way towards a set of one piece billet rims. or maybe ask the factory or OZ who make the hats if there is a set of 19 inch hats that would fit on your current centers. Its unfortunate but it look as though the 18 345 30 tire market is diminishing and we may all be in this boat. May theoretical first shot at this would be leave the fronts as is buy 19 inch hats for the back and go forward. When you get done doing all the leg work on this I for one would like to see what you come up with. Lee

P.S. Only my opinion but a set of PORSCHE or AUDI rims on a Ultima is going to scream cheap, thrown together, kit car and no that's not a compliment

So to jump in on this.... I've just fitted 19" billet rims, with extended front wishbones (see here: https://www.facebook.com/Ultima.Can.Am.Build/). Reasoning being that I wanted to address handling issues with the longer wishbones, wanted more modern rubber, wanted a wider choice of rubber at more reasonable prices, wanted to redice the width of the rears to address rear-end tramlining and wanted less unsprung mass.
My wheels are from BC Forged. After lots of work measuring & calculating, BC are now able to offer 18 or 19 wheels across their range, for std or long wishbones. Another Ult owner has a set too.
I'm happy to share my specs, or you can work with BC Forged direct. My wheel specs were shared with Braid recently via a builder and that's lead to the factory now offering 19's. MacG Racing are also able to offer Braid wheels and will do further bespoke if you need it. Additionally, a few other owners have done 18" front and 19" rear combos with other manufacturers.
Long & short of it, there's a few 19" options available, giving a range of tyre choices too!
