I'm thinking that it really does not cost all that much to produce. It used to be like a Gaelic version of old Top Gear. I like the younger of the two ladies though.

You'd be surprised how much this stuff costs, and it all mounts up, there's just so many minorities the BBC "have" to cater for!

The Gaelic and Welsh language channels together cost roughly what is being saved by losing half the F1.

This show isnt the reason at all is it? Stop letting personal anger get in the way of reason and logic.

I'm not that angry, more quite annoyed, but it is part of the reason. This crazy PC culture that the BBC believes in that everyone must be catered for even if 12 people are watching it.

BBC Alba costs £4m a year from the BBC, with the balance coming from the Scottish Government (which we pay for, but never mind). That works out at somewhere around £10 per Gaelic speaker per year(ish), which isn't really too terrible if you look at something like Radio 3.

S4C is another matter. As from 2013, the BBC has to find nigh-on £100m to fund it, after it was dumped there by the DCMS.

I actually saw this program once whilst channel flicking. Someone was testing a Caterham and it was actually fairly interesting. It certainly wasn't a high budget production though.

Don't forget the Welsh and Gaelic radio channels.

The tall dude keeps rubbish his legs in a really unnerving way - just think, you paid for that!

£32m for s4c in 2012 according to the grauniad- more than the savings made by compromising f1 coverage- much of s4c output gets nil viewers (officially) compared to up to 7m for the f1
licence fee is just a tax to provide minority output

That is sort of the point of the BBC - it's a "public service" after all. So long as the output is decent I have no problem. When they churn out st like "don't scare the hare" and "the voice" I get angry.

That link says Series 3.

Presumably this has been going on for a while?

the real reason is that it was going to go to ITV or CHannel 4.

the BBC then proposed they could show half of the races and sky could do the rest.

this way the BBC kept some F1 coverage.

Sadly everyone who pays for their licence fee can only watch half of the F1 for 'free' now.

good one BBC, really in the interests of the fee payers there.

If this is the point of the BBC I for one don't want to pay £145 a year to support it- no licence fee and I'd have no problem- let the people who want the minority output pay for it and leave the rest of us, to whom the BBc is becomming less and less relevant, alone- then we can spent our money of sky or wherever we want
