We've had sci-fi machinery and action/sci-fi movie threads but what would you consider to be the best Sci-Fi movies of all time?

Some of my contenders:

Terminator 2

Bladerunner

Battlestar Galactica (2 part mini series)

Aliens

2001 A Space Odyssey

The Day the Earth stood still (original)

But the best IMO Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan.

Watched that quite recently and whilst yes it's a classic, I felt it had dated quite badly.

Of course most 50/60's sci-fi movies have dated (but in a good way!)

Personally, I'd put the first 2 Alien films up there, along with Serenity (which I thought was fab even before seeing the series) and Gattaca (something a bit more interesting than the usual sci-fi stuff).
I always try and watch Galaxy Quest when it's on too...

In such a fashion I recently reprised my love for the girl Loren (at her peak) with the stellar cast of the similarly matured 'Fall of The Roman Empire' - an indulgence of fully formed technicolour raraely witnessed, cinematographically speaking, these days.

Going off 'Zulu' on Blu-ray, such rich movie canvasses are there to be hedonistically indulged without excuses being necessary, very much like that Daytona that Hammond chap drove on tv not so long back.

Put on some tweed, fire orf a couple of rounds and get thoroughly trelliced with whatever pickles yer liver.
