Bus drivers in Brighton and Hove have been told not to call passengers "babe" or any such familiar terms.

Is this a wind up?

Brighton and Hove Bus Coach Company said:
Please can drivers be aware that some of our customers may take offence at having terms such as 'love', 'darling' and 'babe' directed towards them.

This can be seen by some as being a sexist comment, as a recent complaint has highlighted.

Will they be also banning bud, pal and mate for the men.

Don't find it sexist but still annoys me.

How can Brighton bus drivers be expected to address passengers in a gender appropriate way when even the Brighton passengers can’t work out what gender they are.

For a while living in telford i had to resist picking up calling people 'jockey' fking wierdos'

Now I am back in Yorkshire i can call people love again without being reported to personnel by stuck up bhes from the midlands.

"Alright sugartits?" should be a decent enough replacement.

rofl

I quite like all the terms like chuck, dear, love, etc - it adds a bit of personality to the exchange. As a bloke, the only one I object to is Madam.
