Not against anyone making profit. But that is gross and they are saying that it has come from the high price of oil. That is so so wrong. While every one esle in the world struggling they are taking advantage of the fact that we can not do with out fuel.

Erm...but the actual cost of the stuff is cheap. They arent profiteering, because they only put a small margin of profit on each barrel, but they sell billions of them. The high cost of the stuff to punters comes from the tax loading on it. You cant really blame Shell for tax hiking the prices up by 70%.

....which is why they need to make these profits in order to fund the massive costs of exploration and development that will ensure that we continue to get the fuel we need.

Are you confusing the high price of oil, which has been fairly static for the past year...

...with the price of petrol / diesel which is mostly tax?

Not a charity just robbers. That profit on any company is massive and wrong. Bearing in mind that is up 54% on last years profit.Thats some growth. How can any body thing is good apart from shell of corse. These amounts of profits are contributing factor to people loosing there jobs and pushing prices up on other items. That the world just can't afford at this economic time.

That is a startlingly naive view of business.

What are they supposed to do? Not be so profitable?

What do you think pays for the incredibly expensive and risky exploration?

What pays for dividends to shareholders who invest in companies.

Where would money come from to pay for a cleanup if they had a BPP style event?

Last time I checked you didn't HAVE to buy Shell's products. And obviously the world can afford it "at this economic time".

Sorry, but you're wrong.

The world DESPERATELY, DESPERATELY NEEDS this at this time - and more like it.

The positive impact this has on savings, mortgages, borrowings is profoundly positive. As as been said, the cost of fuel is (in most parts of the world) governed by tax not the cost of supply.

Oh dear, oh dear, you really don't get business do you.

Do you have a pension, insurance policy or any other pooled investment? I think you do. You should therfore be happy one of the companies you part own is successful.

Cheap point aside.....

...oil & gas is a very high risk business that does not make spectacular returns, margins are relatively low compared to the risk & capital sums expended. You want to knock profiteering, take a look around at margins elsewhere in other industries. You have no conception of the risks undertaken by the oil majors to ensure you have fuel to put in your car.

What is gross is the tax the Govt makes on fuel sales. Guess what, the tax is so high because we can not do without fuel.................

Seriously???

Try thinking before typing... please.

You are complaining they are making a profit and its wrong in this economic time, so success in bad times is wrong in your mind... They make a profit and that means people are loosing their jobs?? Take off the tin foil hat and step away from the PC.

You make make my head hurt.
