according to the bbc website. Good news, but whats the betting supermarkets will take the opportunity to put it up a bit instead.

Well, the price at the pump has slipped recently so I don't see any reason any retailer would just put it up by thrupence on the basis some of the more informed motorists were expecting it to go up by that amount anyway.

I'd imagine market forces would keep things as they otherwise would have been.

Inflation figures will be affected downwards with the lack of 3p+VAT rise. Good move Ozzy.

Unlikely, considering that they seem to be trying a minor price-war. Asda reduced their prices to 127.7 for petrol today.

It seems like far too long since we paid 1.30/litre.

Which would actually be 4p by the time it was at the forecourt as they always round prices up to xx.9

Are we supposed to be grateful? When they CUT duty by 30p I will think about appreciating them.

Ed Balls on Radio 4 this morning - The Government MUST cancel the planned increase.

Ed Ball this afternoon - This is the quickest Government U-Turn ever.

hehe I heard that too. BBC also now calling this a U-Turn.

I consider it to be a government not afraid to listen to it's electorate and adapt/reassess policy.

Surely better than a government that bounds on regardless?

It's as "real" news as any other news on any given day.

Every day we have a government or opposition pronouncements. Indeed, there is something lacking in my day if I don't get my daily "bullst broadcast".

So far this week we've had -

Milliband on immigration
Cameron on benefits
Gove on education
Osborne on fuel escalator

It must be the Lib Dem's turn tomorrow - surely.

I didn't think he'd back down on this again having done so many times already. It is still too expensive but this is better than a kick in the arse.

I paid 126.7 two days ago at Asda in the Isle of Dogs.

Delayed until January, not cancelled according to the content of the news, rather than the headline.

With oil still dropping, and no duty increase (planned) for 6 months or so, there'll be more price drops to come.

Let's be clear, the price of petrol pretty much tripled during the Labour years, and a large chunk of that that wasn't the rise in oil prices. Ed Balls played a large part in that policy.
