Lion gets death penalty
Discussion
A woman goes into a lion enclosure and gets mauled by a perfectly normal lion
They can't work out what provoked this animal to do such an act
From all accounts the student would think it normal to go into a lion cage.
Due to overwhelming evidence of a dead body next to larry he was shot dead in his own cage for this ghastly act

It would seem evolution of improvements to humans is on the down slope and my guess is in 1000 years the common sense part of the brain will be extinct.

They didn't kill the Lion because it had killed the girl, they killed it because it couldn't be coaxed back into a holding enclosure and the girl was still alive needing emergency medical attention (in close proximity to a carnivor that had recently expressed a desire to kill bipeds).
Very sad all round, but I guess if you or I were on the scene we would have probably made the same decision if immediate, and instant, tranquillisers were not available.
I've not been in Lion enclosurers but I have been in with several Tigers from new borns to many adults, you're under no illusion that although hand reared these magnificent cats could remove you from this green earth at will and even through play - never approach from the 'business end' and never initiate play.
Very sad, the Lions death unavoidable I guess once urgent medical treatment was require - what an inexperienced intern was doing in there is another question.
Oh, reading the stats, 21 deaths and 246 maulings attributed to big cats in the US - wow.

reading comprehension ability is also on a downhill trajectory, it seems
so now a doctor went in and checked vitals of the woman, returned and suggested that the lady was still alive so better call the shooters. All while the lion had her head being chewed.reading between the lines (or lions) comprehension, we are all still good at :-)
or looking at updated youtube clips using terms "put down" and taken "care off"

Well, I'm no animal expert but my first guess is a big Apex predator saw lunch.
Once more it seems man thinks we can control everything else on the earth.

Sounds like the volunteer did something stupid and got herself and the animal killed
Tragic - the sanctuary needs to take a long hard look at its procedures, education and controls, but ultimately if you trust someone with the keys to the cage (literally or metaphorically) there is a risk that they could do something dumb.

What on earth was she doing in an enclosure with an adult lion? Once they're about 9 months to a year old a lion can and will kill a human, not for fun but because that's what lions do.
Phill Jupitus does an absolutely hilarious extended sequence about people getting into lion cages on 'Quadrophobia':Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJ9aU34LZv0
