Dave is middle class???
Discussion
"David Cameron today claimed he and his wife are part of the 'sharp-elbowed middle classes'.
The Prime Minister insisted he and Samantha are like millions of others, despite their reputed £30million fortune.
He made the claim during a PM Direct event in Manchester, the latest of a series in which he has opened himself up to questions by the public.
It was in response to a query about Sure Start centres, which were a Labour initiative and help to millions of families across the country.
Mr Cameron argued the centres often do not help the most in need, adding: 'The sharp elbowed middle class, like my wife and me, get in there and get all the services.'

That would be Dave the Old Etonian married to the daughter of a Baron?

I think the term 'middle class' covers a pretty large chunk of the population nowadays. My definition of 'upper class' would be someone who doesn't have to go out to work in the morning. Cameron doesn't have that kind of money behind him. Upper middle class if you want to start splitting definitions, but certainly not aristocracy. The Prime Minister insisted he and Samantha are like millions of others, despite their reputed £30million fortune.

Nice bit of class war trolling though. Have some sausages with that chip on your shoulder.

Wouldn't that include Ballair's benefits aristocracy? The north east must be full of the upper class by now!230TE said:

So, £30m not enough to retire on - must have a hell of a standard of living to maintain don't you think?230TE said:

£30m, not enough to be deemed of independent means? You're joking!Where'd the £30m figure come from anyway? Accurate or hearsay?
If he was Labour he'd be trying to say he was working class.
It might be a fine line he's treading, but the very fact he's got a job, which he's worked to attain, means I'll allow him to consider himself middle class. I couldn't care less where he went to school, I don't see how it's got anything to do with it.

It was an unverified estimate of what Dave and Sam Cameron stand to ultimately inherit. But several people have to die first. (Not me.)
Well, as pm surely he's well placed to have a few folk disappear? After all Ballair and his merry band of men did away with more than a few . .. . allegedly.
Dave's 'middle class' background:
"Cameron is a direct descendant of King William IV and his mistress Dorothea Jordan. This illegitimate line consists of five direct generations of women on his father's maternal side starting with Lady Elizabeth FitzClarence, William and Jordan's sixth child, through to the fifth female generation Enid Agnes Maud Levita. His father's maternal grandmother, Stephanie Levita, was a sister of Duff Cooper, 1st Viscount Norwich, Conservative statesman and author, husband of Lady Diana Cooper (daughter of the 8th Duke of Rutland) the actress and society celebrity. His paternal grandmother, Enid Levita, who married secondly a younger son of 1st Baron Manton, was the niece of Sir Cecil Levita, Chairman of London County Council in 1928. Through the Mantons, Cameron also has kinship with Alexander Fermor-Hesketh, 3rd Baron Hesketh, Conservative Chief Whip in the House of Lords 1991-93 and Treasurer of the Conservative Party from 2003. Cameron's maternal grandfather was Sir William Mount, 2nd Baronet, an army officer and the High Sheriff of Berkshire, and Cameron's maternal great-grandfather was Sir William Mount, 1st Baronet, Conservative MP for Newbury 1918-1922. Lady Ida Matilde Alice Feilding, Cameron's great-great grandmother, was the daughter of William Feilding, 7th Earl of Denbigh, a courtier and Gentleman of the Bedchamber.[20] He is also a great × 4 great-nephew of Sir James Hanway Plumridge."

You don't see it as a politician trying to spin his back ground so he appears to share a back ground more in common with the electorate? He might be doing everything right but clearly his background isn't quite the same as the man on the clapham omnibus, unless it's the night run and has been picking up the bullingdon club after a heavy night.Fittster said:

So her uncle was a bit like a predecessor of Ken Livingstone? That's dead posh, that is. I'm impressed. His paternal grandmother, Enid Levita, who married secondly a younger son of 1st Baron Manton, was the niece of Sir Cecil Levita, Chairman of London County Council in 1928.

It doesn't matter to me if the guy thinks he's upper, middle, lower or class 8A. That and the idea that someone can be downtrodden because their parents scrimped, saved and sacrificed much to put their child through the best education they could. Which admittedly won't apply to Cameron, but it will to some of the people he went to school with.
