Smart move, increase the UK's reliance on imports and lose ALL the tax revenue

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13256597

What a useless shower of st the government nobody voted for are turning out to be.

Shame the 'proper' Conservative party doesn't seem to exist anymore.

The industry is usually prewarned about these increases but apparently, the 6th former didn't bother this time so a rattles/pram scenario.

Then again, anything that draws attention to the insanity of tax, per se, is welcome.

I don;t get it. They stand under a pretense of greenery, and yet tax fook out of one of the cleanest fuels out there.

So what?

Sounds like a cheap excuse to suspend production.

The reserves will be there to tap in the long term when the need arises.

Yes because it's as easy as turning a tap on or off isn't it?

Probably not, but isn't production already suspended, so the timing of resumption is a rather moot point?

Abandoning the field for a prolonged period and then economically resuming production is a somewhat different proposition than a hiatus for planned maintenance.

I'd like to see the oil and gas industry tell the UK government where they can stick their tax hike and pull out of all marginal fields reducing the tax take to zero. Fecking muppets.

True they are muppets as its low taxes and cheaper energy that would sort the economy faster than allmost anything else...

Was this the field where the sulfur was worth more than the gas?

Edit: Liverpool, methinks.

Given the state of the nation's finances, I would think it doesn't matter what colour tie you wear, we need the money.

Destroying UK Industry? One field mothballed, presumably a commercial decision. Conveniently ignoring why taxes need to be raised in the first place. Fair enough, I don't wear a tie, so I bow to your economic expertise.

Don't forget the extra cash that will be coming from lost UK jobs and the taxes they generate. Oh.....hang on a minute.
