Looking for a larger viv for my four foot Royal Python. I've seen a few out there but any recommendations for something of quality.

:-) I thank you. The car I've had for six years and it's more animal than car sometimes. My job, I'm lucky doing something I enjoy. More to it than first meets the eye but I do get around the world.

The snake is called Trevor and he was bought for my 40th. We are talking a serious caracter with his mood swings. Some days he is so laid back and the next when he's on hunt mode you would not put your hands in his viv. Their as smart as they come as snakes go and are fantastic as an introduction into keeping snakes.

Rabbits

A Newfound which has just died and a puppy on its way.

I've pointed my mate Mike in the direction of this thread. He breeds Royal Pythons and I'm sure he'll be able to help! smile

Funnily enough I was talking to him tonight about getting one myself, so I could well be looking at viv setups too. I already have two terrariums for my Crested Geckos...

Off the top of my head, I had,

Californian King snake
hog nose (horrible)
and two of three more I cant remember!

well that answers why this thread was open!! Very confusing!!!

Royals are great pets, however, they do not need anything like the size you may think.
I have about 10 royals at the moment, been keeping them for a number of years now, one thing that i have learnt many times over is that if you give a royal too big a viv you will be asking for problems.
Keep it small and keep them secure, there is no need to go anything bigger than a 3ft viv for a full grown adult, they dont NEED space to explore, they dont need space to stretch out, they dont WANT huge great open spaces it makes them very insecure, and as such you may get feeding problems, attitude porblems, and other stress related issues.
One thing snakes arent is intelligent, they cannot work out problems, they cannot understand that having a larger space means stretch out space, they see larger areas as dangerous, they would be more exposed and therefore more susceptible to predators. keep it small, keep them feeling secure.

Must admit I am wondering what open means.

It's just that I'm after something that looks good and not the usual ply wood.

I pinged the thread to his machine and automatically opened it for him to find this morning. hehe

It would probably have helped if 'tit with snakes' had identified himself as Mike..

All clear now.

When I get Trevor out after the first few seconds of I'm a Ball Python he explores all over the place. I swear he knows me because he's active but with a stranger he just stays curled up for sometime.

when we moved Miffy up to her latest viv I ended up building it myself cos there just isnt much out there that looks decent - especially when you get slightly bigger. much bigger snake and viv admittedly....but it was fun making it!

As Mike said though.... don't go for a big viv for a royal. I did through ignorance with a corn snake years ago - assumed I was being really kind and it bloody hated it.

Just tell the little fella to close his eyes....

I made a video of Trevor when I just bought him during feeding time. My little girl was holding the pinkies and saying "this is Trevor's food, I think their cute". Trevor loved them so much he hugged them. hehe
