Taking a train from uup north down to Southampton so I have the pleasure of getting across London. Apparently its 2.8 miles. What would the cost in a taxi be? Crazy? I might have my laptop with me so I dont want it robbing lol

Northern line then change on to Picadilly at Leicester Sq- unless you have too much luggage you'd be daft to pay for a taxi!

Taxi speed obviously depends on time of day.

Distance: 6.85 km. | Duration: 19 min.

first 310.4 meters £2.20
6.54 km. x £1.20 per km £8.40
waiting in traffic (~9 min.) £3.30
environmental charge £0.20
Total £14.10

And your only option as there are no tube trains today

No, that's Euston. You'ld need to transfer at Leicester Sq.

Not forgetting they could get off a couple of stops before Waterloo at Charing Cross and pay a visit to Trafalgar Square...they have pigeons there; the OP will like that! wink

Nothing like a bit of festive xenophobia smile

I think I get it now I'm on the blue line down to Leicester square and northern line down to Waterloo.

Ah, excellent, the perfect excuse for my favourite taxi joke.

Passenger: "Waterloo please."

Taxi driver: "The station?"

Passenger: "Well, I'm a bit late for the battle..."

All week, veal, &c...

You could walk along Euston Rd and get a bus - 76, 176 and something else IIRC.

Mind, a cab isnt going to break you financially, if you dont have a desire to travel with nutters/loud iPods/poeple who left their manners at home etc etc. [/oldgit]

Victoria to Oxford Circus then Bakerloo. Less than 15 mins.

Wouldn't bother with a taxi unless you have lots of luggage.

Bus will take forever on that route.

Bus won't be as slow as you think. I get it from Russell Square to Waterloo. Can be as little as 15 minutes so add another 5 or so from Kings Cross

The tube fare is £4, so if there's more than one of you you may be better off getting a taxi door to door.

This is the answer. Come out of Kings X Station and you'll be facing south. Turn right and head west along the Euston Rd. Not even 10 mins to Euston.

Or if with heavy bags, as said, Victoria Line to Oxford Circus, Bakerloo to W/Loo.

As said, whippet goes free but keep those Woodbines under your flat cap as it's strictly no smoking

Agreed. I do this several times a week. You can even stick your nose in at the British Library if you get a few mins as you'll walk past it.

As a fellow laptop-toting northerner, I advise you to keep your ferret in the laptop case where it can bite the fingers off dirty southern thieves. biggrin

The tube will generally be quicker than a cab but it's soul destroying.
