How would you define a proper Chav? I seem to be using the term more and more these days at certain idiots on the roads, but is it being over used? Is it the obigatory 'Elizabeth Duke' jewelry, stereotypical Burberry and tasteless car mods still the barometer? It don't want to prejudice people unfairly, so what's your definition? Please help with this pressing matter.

My definition is of anyone dressed in sportswear who's unnecessarily aggressive, violent or argumentative, and with a low IQ. They're a bit of a different breed to be honest!

Is that non PC enough? biggrin

This^ All about the attitude and less about the Burberry, saxos and staffies etc (though it all adds up).

I agree. The term 'chav' is usually used by those who are only slightly better, in an attempt to appear less scummy.

Oddly, Chav is a pikey word for an undesirable. Strange but true.

Popular myth. The true etymology is more likely to be from the Romani 'chavo', meaning boy.
