All,

So we have recently had a influx in folk looking to make large scale changes to their bodies in the pursuit of health and/or image. So we had the idea of doing some type of contest to keep motivation high and for us to share our experiences along the way.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/xforums/topic.asp?h=0...

How to enter?
Start a posting in here detailing your current condition, reason for change and plan (exercise, diet etc). It's important you have a reasonable level of updates in here.

Before and after pictures are required for the prize element (clothing is acceptable as long as its tight enough to show figure, however topless for the guys is preferential).

Everyone entering should enter before 17th although its encouraged you enter as soon as possible! The sooner you enter the longer you have!

The contest starts today and goes until March 1st 2012.

Prize is TBD.

All in all though this should be fun and hopefully helpful for generating motivation and also as a way for us to share our experiences!

Lee

Can't we just post weekly updates in here rather than starting another thread? Easier to read people's progress.

(Will delete this post after seeing your reply so as not to fill this thread with crap. You might need to remind me if I forget.)
Done!

Don't you think the end date is a bit soon?

Even if I lost a stone in that time, You'd hardly see a difference.

I like the idea of competition & support but your encouraging me to wire my teeth together! Which I don't think you'd advise.

The idea of the comp and the forum is to be healthy. Rapid weight loss isn't.

I'm sure readers/ judges would want to see a decent visual difference. Not like "oh yeah I can see his love handles/ belly has gone down a bit, I think"

I was thinking more like March??

I agree running to March 17th 2012 would make more sense in seeing real change in someone.

I guess I'll start.

Current Condition
Slim, mildly athletic, pretty good for age (39) but nothing to get excited over.

Reason for Change
Well, I seem to have more time these days to focus on a more regimented approach. That said, my other sports still come first and I don't want to be in a position where I can't participate because of weight training recovery so we will see.

Plan
I want to bulk up more so I am going to have to take my training a little more seriously than I currently am (which is to just maintain a reasonable level of fitness, training whenever I can, once or twice a week) hence my thread on my current training regime.

My target is to remain lean but more toned, visualise more Brad Pitt/Fight Club than Arnie/Predator. So 3x6 reps of basic weight exercises plus core work. Diet-wise, I shall continue my mainly vegetarian, GI diet. I do eat a fair bit of carbs but this doesn't really show and if I am bulking up then in theory I should end up burning this more so I shouldn't need a change of diet. Additionally, I don't really want to increase my meat intake but we'll see; maybe I will just for the next couple of months.

No photos; not interested in a prize nor posting pictures of my half-naked body on a forum!

Ok I`m in!
My current condition:
I`m 39yrs old and 19st 2lbs as of today 9/10/11 (lost 2lbs since last Monday)

Reason for change:
Nearly 40yrs old and thinking if I don`t sort myself out now, it`ll be the end of me. My father died when I was 14, at 47 (cancer) and I want to see my two boys, one of 7yrs and the other 3mths old, grow up.
Been injured for over a year and done Zero exercise in that time, not even walked a mile. Put on 1 1/2stone and need to lose 4stone. I`m going to struggle with the exercise part but I`ve been advised by consultant due to me getting Osteoporosis thanks to injury,to grit my teeth and get on with it!

My plan:
Eat Healthy,(It`s not a diet it`s a lifestyle change as they say). Cut out the crap food and cut down on alcohol. Join a gym and go 3 times/wk. Went mountain biking yesterday and loved it! In agony last night and this morning with foot but it was worth it.

I`ve yo yo dieted in the past unsuccessfully by starting and giving 110% exercising and eating less than 1000cals per day. Normally burn myself out and go back to having the odd bottle of red which ends up back to 5 per week!
I`m learning more about nutrition and trying to eat little and often. I`m finding this a bit strange so I`m adding in a Promax diet shake in twice a day to up my intake.

I`ve had a bet with my mate to see who loses the most as I know this`ll help us. Nothing like a bit of competition to get off the couch.

I`ll upload a (headless) pic when I`ve got time over the next day or two.

Excellent been meaning to come on hear for a while now for some advice/motivation so this sounds ideal....

Current Condition
Just turned 29, almost 6'4" and until recently I was 19 stone. my weight over the past couple of years has yo-yo'd quite a bit but I've never been 'trim' in that time i.e. I haven't been sub 17st for quite sometime now. I'm an all round big bloke (powerfully bulit of course) so my height and frame hides my weight pretty well but I'm still a fat bd and I know it!

Reason for Change
I get married next year and if I can't get slim for that then I have no hope! I'll also be 30 next year so it's no doubt going to get harder and harder to keep the weight off.

Plan
I've started doing the NHS couch to 5k over the last few weeks. I'm now on week 5 and can really feel the difference already. I going to stick with this for the 9 weeks which should put me in a position where I can do 3 miles, 3 times a week, within 30 mins. I also enjoying playing squash which I think is a really good work out. I want to be in a good place weight and fitness wise by Chritmas so I'm not trying to cram too much in before the wedding in May.

I love to ski and usually go 2-4 times per year but the last couple of years I feel my physical fitness has let me down long before my ability does. My Stag do is at the end of March skiing in Austria so there will be some friendly competiton with the lads to see who's in the best nick! So there's plenty of motivation for me. After Christmas I'll really start doing ski specific exercise.

Goal.

My goal for the wedding is to 16.5 stone minimum. I've already lost a stone but imagine the rest will be harder to shift.

Might as well get my entrance in early. Plenty of time to improve now!

Current Condition

Not too bad, regular gym goer, mix of weights and cardio. Started back training and dieting in mid june weighing 190lb @ 21%bf, last body fat was measured at 15%bf in August @ 170lb. Probably between 165-170lb currently. First month no real change in bodyfat, but 2nd month I managed to drop from 20% to 15%.

Reason For Change

Not really changing, just carrying on. Forever chasing that magical <10% bodyfat. Got down to 12% last year, but that's not sub 10%, so having another crack at it this year. Should be able to do it in a couple of months, given my current estimation of ~14% body fat.

Plan

Keep doing what I'm doing. It works, so no real reason to change it at the moment. I vary the weights every month or two and switch from light weights for more reps to heave weights and less reps. As long as I keep improving my lifts, I'm not too fussed, though.

Long term goal is to get to 170lb, but with 10% body fat. Means I'm going to have to pack on a bit of lean muscle, but there's plenty of time to do that. Need to get down to 10% body fat first and see what I'm weighing in at, then decide what the next plan of attack will be.

Current Training Plan

Monday - Cardio in morning before work then weights in evening followed by more cardio

Tuesday - Cardio in morning then intervals on treadmill in evening followed by stretching and abs workout

Wednesday - Cardio in morning weights in the evening then more cardio

Thursday - Cardio in morning then Intervals on treadmill followed by stretching and abs

Friday - Cardio in morning then weights in evening and cardio

Saturday - Cardio in morning then intervals followed by stretching and abs

Sunday - Cardio in morning after waking up, then maybe weights if I'm having a day off on Monday.

Rest day is either Sunday or one evening during the week, but that's the general pattern.

Weights work out consists of:

Calf press on leg press machine - 3x10 100kg
Leg press on machine - 1x6 230kg, 1x6 260kg, 1x6 230kg (varies depending on how I'm feeling 1 rep max 300kg)
Seated row flat grip - 3x6 90kg
Seated row upright grip - 3x6 90kg
Bench press on seated machine - 2x6 120kg, 1x6 100kg
Upright chest flys on machine - 3x6 65kg
Shoulder press maching - 3x6 80kg
Shrugs with bar - 1x6 70kg, 1x6 90kg, 1x6 90kg, 1x6 70kg
Bicep curls on bar - 3x6 35kg of weights then whatever the bar weighs, think it's about 8kg
Pull down on cable machine - 3x6 42.5kg

Morning and evening cardio consists of 45min/3 mile walk.

Intervals varies depending on how I'm feeling and abs workout is just 5 or 6 exercises, but I don't really know what most of them are called, so won't list them.

So, that's what I'll be doing for the next couple of months! Will try and get pictures this week and will weigh myself at some point and get my current body fat measured.

Current position: 107kg(!), 5'11" with weight spread over my whole body - i.e. I have fat legs, tummy, chest, back.

Reason to change is that my dad died when I was 9 from CVD. Eldest sibling was 19. I'm approaching 30 and I need to get in shape and fking well stay in shape.

Ideally, I'll slowly trim down to about 75kg. This is ambitious, I know, however, it's a long term goal.

Plan is to run 3x week. Starting at 5km each run and building my way up to 10km by March 2012. I'll also do push ups and sit ups daily - again, starting low and building up to a reasonable level. And no junk food at all - nothing fried, no more than 1/4 bar of chocolate or equivalent as a friday treat, no more than 200ml of fresh juice a day (I make fresh juice for breakfast most days), less carbs, more brown carbs (rice, bread, pasta). Fat free snacking. Basically, eating healthily always. If I get down to 75kg, I'll treat myself to a £5k shopping spree (got my eye on a new rolex).

fk it, I'm in since just started a new routine..

Current Condition
27, almost 5ft 8, and weighing in at 15stone. I was quite fit in my late teens, earlly twentys - weighed about 13stone. Late twenties, booze and kebabs took over from sports hobbies and i ballooned to 19.5 stone at my peek in 2008. Jump to 2009 and I dropped this down to 14.5 - still had a bit of a beer belly and flabby bits but was a lot better than the previous 19.5 stone beast! The last 2 years I've fluttered between 14.5 and 15, trying different things in the gym with not much success. I've now got it into my thick head that i'm not going to see any changes without getting my diet sorted out aswell as working out properly.

Reason for Change
Wanting to be able to fit into decent clothing, go shirtless on holiday without looking like a pregnant woman and generally feel better about myself.

Plan
Started at a new gym which is quiet and has extensive free weight facilities.
GOing to follow the Stronglifts 5x5 program along with a high protein diet along with 30-40min sessions of cardio. This will be 3 times a week. In addition to this, I'll occasionally go a run or cycle once or twice a week for some extra fat burning.
The main thing for me to concentrate on is my diet though.

Goal.

Due to the program I am going to follow,I dont expect a weight decrease as such as I'll be doing a lot of weight work. I hope to stay around the 14-15stone mark, lose fat and build myself a decent muscular physique.

I also have just started the stronglifts workout.

I have been to the gym sporadically since I was 16, at uni I let it slip a bit but when I left I took it a bit more seriously. I got to 15st in January but then broke my thumb boxing so had to stop training with weights. I'm 6'4" and I was about 14% bf in January. I'm now 13st 10lbs and have lost a lot of strength. The first few times back at the gym are horrid when you realise quite how much strength you've lost. I play football twice a week and that's about my only other form of exercise. I'm 22 years old.

Do you have the spreadsheet for the workout? It's excellent. If you haven't, let me know and I'll email it to you.

I'm in!

Current condition

24 years old, 12 stone 13 lbs and 5'7. I have a slightly stocky frame so it sits on me better than if I were naturally skinny. I am however short, and erm compact! Could be a lot fitter. I do go to the gym and have been doing more cardio recently. I have lost around 10lbs since the start of September.

Reason for change

Royal Navy medical and fitness tests will require me to be relatively fit and I want to get rid of the slight gut I have and be generally in better condition.

The plan

Eat less crap, eat more fruit and veg. Get to the gym three times a week for at least an hour at a time.

The goal

A stone gone by Christmas, to be able to get into size 32 jeans again! Currently a 34. I also want to be able to do an hours cardio and not be completely knackered!

Here goes nothing.

I used to be fit, lots of cycling and climbing. Collected a bad knee injury which knocked that on the head a few years ago. By the time that cleared up I had a back injury and I've been a bit pear shaped since then. Fitness aside my main motivation is back pain, I still get regular sciatica and I'm hoping an improvement in weight, fitness and core strength will help with this.

This year I have started doing weights, fairly light as I'm worried about my back. Also out on the bike a couple of hours a week. Lost some excess from my peak of 14 stone.

Currently 31 years old, 5'11" and just under 13 stone now. My diet is terrible, lots of fast food, fry ups and cakes. I failed at quitting smoking and I drink too much. If my work didn't involve alot of manual work I'd be massively overweight by now.

My plan is to keep at it with the weights and cycling, going to look into things I can do specifically to improve core strength. I will make some changes to my diet. I will kick the smokes. I will even try to reduce beer intake, no promises on that count though.

In keeping with the rest of the posters I shall post up a pic later wink

I'm 33 in six weeks, 6'2, big frame but my weight has just crept over 20st for the first time ever. My weight suffers because I work very long hours in a very stressful job and tend towards crap food and a lack of exercise.

My first child is due at the end of the year and I don't want to be a fat dad. Also, a friend of mine has just been through a summer of operations for a situation that might have been avoided had he took better care of himself - seeing how hard he has had it has been a massive wake up call for me.

Plan is to get to 17.5st - I've not been less than that weight since I was 16 and given my frame its a fairly healthy place to be. I've just bought a bike...watch this space!

I feel better having just written that down. Will post a pic when the OP writes No Homo after his request to see men with their tops off!
