Will Steven's has been announced as one of their drivers but I was wondering who people were betting on getting the second seat, Vergne is possibly the best option available IMO but I think whoever comes up with the most cash will get the seat.

The rumour is van der Garde.

He has a contract with Sauber that needs clearing up, hence the litigation. As I suggested on another thread that's probably just HR lawyers at work.

Looking like being a newbie to F1 by the sounds of things:

"We are in discussion, very detailed and very advanced discussion, with some very quick young guys," Lowdon told Reuters.

"Manor has always had a history of bringing some great driving talent on to the grid and we really want to try and continue that," he added.

I think it'll be someone with some F1 experience otherwise Melbourne might be a bit too much for an out and out newbie.

Rumour i heard was Mehri

i think they need a step change, Caterham were beating them when they hired experienced drivers, made a change to pay drivers and dropped back probably due to lack of development experience.

New talent is great but its not necessarily what you need to help develop a car.

I'd like to see an old hand come in and steady the ship, Rubens would be a good choice given he was interested in the caterham drive end of last season

My thoughts for the best option would be Ferrari simulator driver Jean-Eric Vergne especially with the link with Ferrari supplying the engines to Manor.

I am sure JEV would be interested as he could still do the work with Ferrari and keep his hand in with the F1 driving.Manor to do a deal for reduced engine costs and get a bloody good driver to boot.

Beats a young paid driver anyday.

JEV in that car would be pointless - under developed and scrapping it together.

A young gun would be very eager.

Graeme Lowdon was on the F1 show the other day, with Will Stevens.

Ted kept firing names as to who the second driver would be and JEV and GdG were both mentioned, neither were denied but he did say it would not necessarily be a pay driver.

It will be somebody with cash regardless of real experience.

Why wouldnt someone like JEV not want to be in the Manor car,he isnt even reserve driver for Ferrari, every driver wants to be in a 1 car and he will not get forgotten about like he will in the background at Ferrari.

JEV would probably bring a second a lap compared to a pay driver and the 10 million that a pay driver would bring a second a lap with 10 million development to the car as they probably would not give the required feedback to the team.

Do Manor need a pay driver, the new owner has said the budget is 60-62 million for the season and a few investors who were looking at buying the team now want to invest with him. They get 30 million for last year results, get a couple of investors on board for 10 million each,Justin King ia a top man and could probably get four sponsors with 5 million each so then they have 8 million more than the budget required and without the owner spending any more of his money that he already has paying of the creditors.

Around the middle of the season when Manor introduce their full spec 2015 car and this years Ferrari 2015 spec engine they could do a lot worse than have an established F1 driver on board.

I have queries about whether any money has been paid as the new 'owner' isn't such a cash rich individual. From what has been written Mr king has not put any money into the team and I am sure they just want to finish one race to get some additional Bernie money.

The creditors have agreed a CVA (company voluntary agreement)and as it was reported Marussia had debts of 60 million I am guessing that the new owner of the Manor team has already paid 20-25 million so they can exit administration, possibly a lot less.

It does seam that they are confident that they will be racing all season and have mentioned that they have a budget available of 60-62 million of which 30 million comes from Bernie.

Justin King was never going to be an investor but interim chairman to put the team in a good financial position and as the ex chief Executive of Sainsburys knows what he is doing and will get some investment in the team and get some good sponsorship deals.

It seams the new owner has not got stacks of money and sold 4.5% of his company OVO to raise 2 million for a family house but also owns the holding company to OVO and wonder how much that is worth.

Interestingly its only for the 1 race, which to me says they must have a longer term option in negotiation.

If Merhi has only signed for the "opening rounds" I can only think it's because they are waiting for Giedo van der Garde's situation to be cleared up, who else could they be waiting for? Also a huge shock that the new chairman's son has been signed as test/reserve driver rolleyes

I think they're limited to only 4 drivers per season so could be interesting later in the season.
