Earlier in the week, saw "1U" on a blue BMW estate in Cannock. A 2009 320d according to the DVLA. Perhaps U isn't the most popular letter for names etc but surely the plate must be worth a fair bit? I don't recall seeing any single letter and digit plates on anything else so mundane. Any other similar spots?

Possibly?

Also see S1 NGH on a RR Phantom local to me that was around double the price of the car that wears it.

I recall seeing something like AS1 on a Ford Ka or something similarly naff. Makes me wonder, they must have had that plate in the family for a while...

I used to see DAV1D around Blackburn quite regularly on a 1980s Ford Granada that was definitely worth less than the registration. I see a two letter two digit combination, can't remember what it is now, on an old Peugeot 205 and another on a Toyota Aygo. I know someone who inherited a registration from her father when he died and put it on her car that was probably worth less than the reg. She could have sold it and bought a better car but the sentimental value was worth more than the financial value to her.

Quite often see a 2009 Bentley with reg number 1CE. So wonder what the value of the plate is compared to the car? Plate must be worth a fair bit.

Near Chester by any chance? It's owner by Malcolm Walker who founded Iceland supermarkets.

Yep, correct! I see it around Chester and the Wirral all the time, didn't realise it was owned by Malcolm Walker.

EJ 1 wass on a run of the mill car locally, no idea what car by now though. Rumour is that they were offered an obscene amount of money by Elton John several years ago and turned it down.

It's now on a 2000 Merc C250 diesel so I presume not owned by Elton John then!

Was in London to watch the marathon and happened to catch sight of an Aston with the numberplate V8. Should be worth a few quid...

It's on a 1988 Aston so has to be worth more than the car?

Paul Horrel referred to that in last month's Top Gear magazine. How do you find out what car a registration number is on?
