F40 on a '51 plate...
Discussion
A little confused here as yesterday i saw an F40 on a UK '53 plate on the way back from LM.
Now I am willing to allow a little brain fade for sleep deprivation but can anyone explain how this could be so?
FWIW i was not able to get close enough to it to see if it was a real one but it looked and sounded the part from 3 peage booths away...

What I really wanna know is whether it was a 51 or 53 plate!?
I'm 99% that it was a '51.a 'late' registration was my best guess as well, possibly the result of a collector's car being sold X years later to a person who wanted to use it for more than just looking at. Lovely to see and hear, just a shame that we weren't swift enough to tag along in the motorhome!
Can't have been an import, unless it was an unregistered one, as they still go from the year of first registration wherever it came from. My old IoM A6 was given a W plate when I brought it into the UK in '05ish.
Isnt it something to do with the amount of paperwork/history its got when imported?
If the history is unknown/unclear, im sure it gets SVA'd and then giving a 'new plate'. If its got enough documents to prove what it is, it gets giving the year of manufacture?
Im not sure i just get an incline its because of this???

Isnt the plate based on when it was first registered / used rather than when it was actually built?
I remember there is a pher on here with a 964 with a much newer plate than it should have
Indeed, I know of someone with an X-reg Mk1 MR-2.I remember there is a pher on here with a 964 with a much newer plate than it should have
I will let you know if it comes back with something different.

I have just imported a Mk1 MR2 and currently awaiting the paperwork from DVLA (don't get me started on that subject ). I fully expect it to be an F reg as it was built in May 1989, not a '11 plate because I have just imported it.

If your car was registered in another country you will get an F reg. the ferrari may have been locked up and never registered period until it got the 51plate.I will let you know if it comes back with something different.
As has been said, it relates to when the car was first registered.
Remember seeing a black E30 M3 sport evo for sale at a BMW dealer on a 51 plate, it had been part of their collection along with a 8 series B12, which had also been registered on a 51 plate.
It has been known for the DVLA to make cock ups on registering imports, but they normally correct them.

Where did you see it?
I'm pretty sure that that was the same one I saw on the M1 yesterday afternoon around 5pm coming past Milton Keynes.
If the driver is on here - I was the grinning clapping lunatic in the Puma with both windows rolled down to hear the glorious sound of the turbocharged V8.
I love your car.
