I'm guessing that that won't be the car that gets "salvaged"?

You could re-shell it. But there isn't much to re-shell.

Edited to add - Could it be used in some sort of VIN scam or clone? I suppose it could be shipped to Eastern Europe, it's amazing what they can do with our old wrecks and write-offs!

No, I believe it's the 'rat' look that's very popular amongst VAG types.

Is this what people are spending money on? Economic downturn my arse!

Ive got some old rusty barbecues and broken garden furniture in a pile round the back of the shed i havent got round to disposing of yet. Might stick it on Ebay for £3,000

id be intrigued to find out how soon the current highet bidder pays up - considering he has zero feedback

im guessing scam and as has been said before "acquiring" a V5

£4,600 - that's insane. Even if it is being bought to perpetuate some kind of scam, with an initial outlay of £4,600, that's gonna eat into the profit margin.

From what's left though, would it be re-shelling the car so much as re-identifying another car?

Polish up the wheels, fit some narrower tyres and lower it a lot then he could stick a 1 on the front of the price. yes

exactly, what is a 58 plate a4 worth, i'll say a damned site more than 4,800

nick, an hour to change over numberplates/vin, up in the classifieds at double the money, easy cash

There is no chance that car will end up anything other than cubed and weighed in
