Loads of 59 plate petrol, manual C-Classes with low mileages
Discussion
I idly checked out CarGiant on the way home from work tonight and I'm seriously interested in a car they have there.
What gets me is that there are loads of nearly identical approved ones on the Mercedes site - slightly more money (and that may make them better value) but there are loads of base spec, 1.6 Kompressor C-Classes on 59 plates that start with a 'P' for Preston.
Any idea if anyone has disposed of them recently? They seem like decent value for a work car to knock around in but I'm not desperate to change.

A decent saving on new price but don't expect to get top dollar when you sell it on down the line as they appear to be very basic cars if it's those listed on the Car Giant website.
Most are manuals which in part due to the foot operated parking brake are very undesirable, only base SE spec (elegance or sport were the higher trim levels on this year), base 1.6 engine which is neither powerful/gutsy nor frugal, no leather, no COMAND.
If you're looking for something reasonably refined and well built to run around in then you could do worse.

Base spec, DIY transmission, underpowered engine. Knock yourself out.
Doesn't sound that tempting, to be honest. I thought the whole point of cars like Mercs and Jags was that they had electric everything, leather, massive gas guzzling engine and a slushbox.
Can't see the point in a poverty spec manual with a lawn mower engine, might as well buy a nice specced mondeo instead.

Possible, but I was lead to believe that Car Giant prep to a pretty good standard, not that its proof of anything but we bought a Clio there 6 years ago thats still fine. Actually thought the Lexus GS they have there are a bit of a bargain. OK so the interior is a bit low rent but sub 6 to 60 and 35mpg isn't bad for £11k. I suppose there is just quite a lot of potential bork on a hybrid within another few years.
Car condition is fine... decided on balance that I won't be going for it - and I'm afraid my motoring is strictly appliance only for the time being.
Agree with the "might as well buy a Mondeo" comment - I'm not looking for anything flash although quiet and comfortable are worthwhile, and yes, it goes without saying that resale will not be as easy as a C220 CDi Sport...
The particular car I looked at appeared to be in impeccable condition although there were plenty of others that had issues.
I just wondered, given how common this base spec is all of a sudden (and at that age) if there was a known source. Helphire or the like is a distinct possibility. I did notice that the Bluetooth in the car had been paired with a load of different phones so it's definitely not a one-driver repmobile. (My mother's car is ex-Helphire, by the way - but bought with 13 miles on the clock - and that's not a typo! - so God knows how that happened because I certainly don't.)

Used to be true until recently, there are (or where) a fair number of Mercs on the ERAC fleet with E-prefix Essex plates.
There always were some with other than K-prefix as cars supplied to MB Retail staff were either supplied by Tamworth (B-prefix), Manchester Central (M-prefix) or Colindale (L-prefix). The only ones I used to see with E-prefix were vehicles registered by Romford or Loughton. It is a few years since I was at MB though.
