Sunday nights eBay browsing... say you want a 'mini-wafter', for a 3 figure sum. Strong, dependable, cheap, and pleasant. For short commute, and tip runs, etc. A cheap 1.8 or 2litre Mercedes 190E embodies this. What else could you look for?

I used to have an Audi A4 2.6 v6 from 1996 auto. 150bhp, and the auto box really suited the car. Fantastic cruiser and quick enough. Returned 30 ish mpg on a cruise and bought for £500 with a full MOT. Still running strong with the bass player of our band!

BMW E34 525i. A car for all reasons. You'll find you want to drive it rather further...

ZT or Rover 75 is a good shout.

I quite like the idea of this, for some reason, although its a bit steep.

LS4000 is waaay too much car for me at the moment!

I've arranged to have a look at an Accord thats nearby tomorrow, Cow and tree, 2.3 Auto Type-V, looks quite nice.

Quite a few of those shape Mercs about but I've always had them down as a bit rubbish?

Some nice looking Passats for less than a bag.
Volkswagen Passat 1.8T 20V Sport 4dr Saloon with full leather interior, reasonably economical with cheap tuning potential.
