Sitting here feeling slightly sick, I've just SORN'd my Alfa GTV Twinny so that I can get it ready for sale cry

In its place on my daily commute will be a diesel Saab 9-3, sadly fuel economy and practicality have finally won over and head beat heart.....

I'm trying to tell myself that its just a work horse, I got a great deal, its been well looked after by someone how I know and he has had 60K of reliable mileage out of it.

I'm still sat, not looking forward to the prospect of my morning commute tomorrow. No bright red key, no Italian interior, no rasp from the exhaust. weeping

I've got a horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach that I've made the wrong decision cry but my head tells me that my financial situation and lifestyle meant it was necessary.

Please someone tell me it won't be that bad.....

Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. Post up some pics of the car as a tribute.

I feel for you frown

Look to the future, get the sensible nonsense out the way now and get back to what you really love when the time is right.

About 5 years ago I had to do the same thing due to unemployment. Sold my Lotus Excel and got at Pug 106 diesel.

The Pug was st and not much more economical!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing!

I'm in a similar position, need to sell my S2000 so I can put some more money towards a house deposit, plus with reduced fuel costs can put more towards it per month.

However it's perhaps the best car I'll ever have so putting it off for a moment :0

It's reliable isn't it? Better not get rid just yet.

Why would you SORN a car to sell it? It's not going to impress buyers when you say, "we can't take it out for a drive because it's got no tax disc". Cancelled the insurance as well?

I don't believe this for a second! Granted the 1.5d is very st but they are supremely economical.

Having said that, you'll get best money for a drop top in summer, so perhaps better to get it on the market now as opposed to in autumn/winter.

I have a 406 hdi for my weekly hack to London and back (a 250 mile round trip). Whilst it's perfect for the job, I really want a toy to look forward to driving. I've got my heart set on a Mercedes 560 sel, but worked out it'll cost over double in fuel. Even using man maths I can't justify it - apart from keeping the 406 and alternating which car I take. I guess that could be ok, and it'll keep the miles down on the 560...

Well yeah, its not that economical if you drive it at 90+! biggrin
(I did some calculations when I had a 1.5D Saxo and it worked out as 90 - 33MPG, 70 - 59MPG. Can't say it was the best car to drive on the autobahn, though one of the few I could get the top speed out of while still being overtaken by most of the traffic)

I got rid of my 156 for a 'sensible' car a couple of weeks back, so far the bloody thing has cost me nearly £700, which would have corrected all the minor bits and left enough for a couple of tanks of fuel on the Alfa. Massive regret frown

You managed to hit 90 in a 1.5D Saxo? Blimey, that must have taken a lot of patience, only for your efforts to go down the drain once you see a hill. wink
