As the title says really.

My wife's VED ran out on 31st December and being a good citizen, I paid for the tax a couple of weeks earlier online on 16th December. It hadn't arrived in the post last week, so I rang them and they advised me:

Not to worry, we've had delays with the post due to the bad weather. It should arrive before 4th Jan, but if it doesn't ring us back and we'll issue a duplicate. Your car can be used legally until 10th Jan, due to the way Bank Holidays have fallen this year.
Fair enough I thought, it's bound to arrive.

No such luckfrown

I'm just going to ignore the 10th January limit (or rather my wife is), but has anyone else experienced delays getting their disc in the post, or is it a load of bks?

No, I leave for work before our post arrives and Looness has been out all day too. I'll ring them tomorrow and have a polite rant.

You do know that will achieve nothing except making some poor call centre monkey's day worse, don't you? Just wait.

I ordered two tax discs, one for mine and one for my wife's car on the 30th December (good planning I know) and they both arrived today, 4th.

I suspect the disc will arrive on the 9th or if they are feeling vicious on the 11th so they know a bunch of cars will be guilty of not displaying their tax discs.

He shouldn't wait. They told him to call back if it hadn't arrived by today. Absolutely agree that there's no point ranting at the 'phone jockey though.

if it's been sent what good will a call do? Starting the process again with a dupe disc will probably not make it arrive quicker, will it?

We had the same issue last year but we were told that if you keep the receipt number/print the screen off that the police will accept this in lieu of the disc in the windscreen.

Just did my tax yesterday as the car had been SORN for a month.. hopefully no problems / delays as I'm keen to get it back on the road!

FWIW the SORN letter got through quite quickly and I did that at the end of November..

I'm not going to do any shouty stuff, I wouldn't expect my staff to put up with it, so I don't do it to others.

I am going to ask for a duplicate though, as if it's not made it by now, it could well never arrive. As I said before, I'm not bothered about the theoretical limit of 10th Jan.

I drove for 6 months with a printed page saying I had tax, it had been posted to my old house and I kept meaning to nip down and collect it.

When I went to renew it I found out I had actually been driving for 6 months and 29 days, OOPS!

Although the offence is "Not displaying valid tax", the police just check on the computer these days and are unlikley to issue a ticket as long as the car is taxed.

Keep a copy of correspondence from them stating the vehicle is taxed and postage delayed!
