I'll try to be brief, I run a taxi company in Devon which has 9 cars. Recently one of my 407 estates was written off. I have to replace it, but would rather not put anything on finance so I have £4500ish to spend.

I could hunt round for another 407 estate, but to be honest the appeal of a seven seater is quite strong. I quite fancy a Chrysler Voyager, but then I see Saab 9-5's are quite cheap too. I only post this up, because I'd quite like something a little different from your Skoda/Passat/Vectra standard offering. I'm not worried about the VED (within reason) and would prefer diesel to petrol because of the mileage annually (about 70k).

I ask the venerable members of PH to think differently on this 'What car for...' because it needs to be comfortable both for the driver and rear seat passengers and have sufficient boot/luggage carrying capacity. You might take the view 'crap car, brilliant taxi'.

Mostly it will be used for distance work - airports, etc and lastly, don't want a Beemer or a Merc simply because I don't like them - unless of course you can persuade me differently!!

Oh, and my fleet is silver, so unless it's an absolute steal, it has to be bright silver if you are pointing me to adverts.

What would you like to be picked up in as a business person/holiday maker? What would make you think, hmmm that was a pleasant change from the usual and no more expensive?

Thanks all, and apologies for the 'What car?' thread.

Most private hire firms round here have Sharans (usually with an assortment of lights out).

On my phone so can't check/post links, but could you get a Defender for that much? Or perhaps an E class (old, but some are 7 seats).

What sort of cars do you currently run? Are you looking for a large saloon, estate or an MPV-type thingy?

Like it, nearly bought one when I got the last 407. Certainly in the mix.

Definitely no Sharan/Alhambra/Galaxy - I've had Galaxys and they are awful to work on, expensive and dated looking.

My mk4 Astra was very solidly built, much better than a 407...

How about an LPG Lexus
