Hello,
i am newbie on here,
I live in Essex and at the moment there seems to be a fashion going around that people are using their fog light with their headlights or using them as their side lights. I drive, Mini Cooper S, everyday to work and back and drive down same country lanes, so when driving down a dark road and then a fker driving down with all this headlights and fog lights on. Your retina feels like its burning.
And NO, it has not been foggy when this has happened.
Any one else come across this while driving? or just in Essex

It's because they think they look cool. Shame the BiB don't start fining them for improper use.i am newbie on here,

I've yet to figure out whether we're supposed to be impressed by the superior spec of their Ford Escort LX's (with "sporty" fog lights), or impressed with their superior driving technique at being able to find and operate the fog light switch.
Either way I suspect if everyone were to give them a friendly quick burst of high beam to warn them that they were contravening the highway code they might eventually decide to give it up.

Low mounted "fog" lights often give better illumination of where the road edge is in the area closer to the car, especially in areas where there are no kerb stones. It is just plain rude not to turn them off with oncoming traffic though.
Really? You can't see the road edges clearly with just headlights..? Do people really find front 'fog' lights blinding?(probably just irritating?) I honestly don't think they are, but get some vehicles with HIDs (legal)infront or behind and i'd say this is more irritating as they can be blinding!!(yet legal).I never seen dazzling fog lights, just annoying HID and ill adjusted dip beam headlights.
Surely the name of te article gives a big big clue as to what they are there for? 'Illuminating edges of carriageway when dark lights' they are not. If you cant see the edge of the carriageway with normal lights either your motor is illegal or u need to get to the optician.
As for the Bib. Most normal coppers are either unaware of the fact fogs are illegal or have more pressing crimes. Its rare I get the chance as a reactive copper to spend time pulling for fogs much as I would love too. Lots of traffic guys are out of bigger fish unless there is absolutely nothing around.

Really? You can't see the road edges clearly with just headlights..? I drive quite low cars and I must say that front fog lights don't bother me. In fact I probably was that wker with his front fogs on and I didn't realise they bother others. I've since corrected my ways as I realise that some are bothered by it.
It's the misuse of high intensity rear lights that gets my goat.
