Do red cars still suffer from fading? or does it depend upon manufacturer?

I was tempted to go and see a Fabia VRS for sale but I was put off because it's red.

all the faded red cars that I've seen seem to be of the 90's vintage.
this is what i recall too - mainly poverty spec vw's, fords and vauxhalls - and this is whats making me wary of buying a red car now

I think modern-ish red Vauxhalls still fade. My MINI is still as vibrant as it was when new in 2007...

I think they have solved this problem by using better laquers that can stop the UV from getting through, which is what fades the paint.

I think the Skoda should be fine, they look nice in red too!

I don't think it was just the cheaper end of the market. I had a couple of BMW's that I had to work on constantly to stop fading and I have seen a few very bad Volvos.
I was told by a mate in a bodyshop that it was something to do with the pigment in red paint.

My old 04 SEAT Leon faded a little but it did spend the majority of its time outside. A friend's '98 Prelude suffered appalling fade on the front and rear bumpers.

most red cars produced in the last year should be ok for the future. When buying my astra i mentioned the fading red paint on some vauxhalls and the salesman said that a completely new colour and type of paint is being used on new red vauxhalls from approx 2007 onwards

The red paint on my '93 GTO fades seriously on the plastic wing mirrors and rear aero but not on the vertical plastic panels and not at all on any metal panels.
A three monthly helping of Color Magic polish brings it back. I'm sure using t-cut that frequently would have removed all the paint by now.

Should be absolutely fine. I had this concern when I decided to remove the top stripes on my red Fiesta ST after a couple years. Not something I should have been concerned about when I actually did it and it was fine.

Does seem to be an 80's / 90's thing! There is 1997 Polo near my friends place which is virtually white from fading. I keep debating coming over with a bottle of Super Resin Polish and just polishing one panel on it wink

I had a new Alfa Romeo Spider in red, I only kept it for 2 years so didnt notice any fade obviously, one thing I did notice with the red paint was the swirl marks that appeared a few months into ownership. Red really seems to show them up under harsh light, I dont know whether this is a red car thing, or an Alfa thing though.

One of the guys at work has a red 57 plate corsa that's rapidly approaching pink, so I'm afraid the salesman may have lied to you frown
