Had a surprise chance at a drive of one of these earlier today. 21 plate, approx 8k miles.

What a lovely car to drive. My only real comparison was my 2013 Leaf. This felt similar, bit smaller and more sporty, tighter inside.

Love the dash and the small steering wheel. Very smooth pickup. Slightly firm ride due to the big wheels and low profile tyres but they do look great. Great looking car outside too.

Had it in Eco mode for most of the drive without realising, I didn't see the small Eco wording on the display until part way though. Car felt perfectly fine in that mode. Only when I clicked it into Sport that i realised it had a lot more to give! Very responsive indeed in that mode.

Totally took me back to being in the Leaf, only in a more funky car with a longer range. Was displaying 99 miles remaining at 61%.

Lovely. Now where do I find £30k......?!

The Peugeot looked great but was a bit smaller than I needed. I waited expecting the e308 to be launched, but they weirdly chickened out and it’s only currently available as a hybrid. Sale lost.

I agree, I really like both the yellow and blue these come in. Not quite as much as the Renault yellow admittedly but still.

These look quite smart overall too. For some reason I prefer them the the Corsa version, the interior just seems a bit nicer.

I actually plopped down an order on the GT Premium about a month ago, currently waiting for delivery - went with the 'in your face blue' colour rather than the yellow but did have to have heated seats.

Beforehand I drove an ID3, Ioniq 5, I3s & TM3.

Broadly ruled the TM3 out on cost grounds but had a go anyway. Found the rest of them a bit of a much of a muchness so went with the one that I thought was the most interesting inside & best looking outside. I don't actually think the e208 drives particularly well on uneven roads - indeed the ride gets quite choppy & uncomposed once you start sending it down a rutted backroad, but none of the cars mentioned provided what I would call a 'fun' experience. So basically it'll do for trips to work and to tescos, and allow me to have something woefully impractical for the weekend drives.

..or so the theory goes!

I test drove one of these and an iD3 yesterday. I spent most of the test drive in the 208 messing with the seating position. Between the seat, the small steering wheel and the awkwardly positioned instrument cluster I couldn't find a driving position that didn't feel like an awkward compromise. I like to sit low, so in order to see the display I had to have the steering wheel too low down for comfort.

Afterwards I went to test drive the iD3, I'd already decided I didn't like it, so went for a test drive just to confirm this and take it off my list, in the end I actually preferred it. You can tell that one is a petrol car that they've put an electric motor in, and the other is an electric car.

I dunno, I got over the wheel position quite quickly; I tend to sit low, but quite like the wheel facing me, so after a bit of messing around (no doubt, it's odd) I got on with it.

I think the ID3 drove better than the Peugeot; I'd agree the chassis and general dynamic works much better than the 208. Still though, it wasn't a car that I'd take for a drive for 'fun'. The killer for me though was that I really, really didn't enjoy the inside of the VW. No rear speakers unless you shell out for an option and the hardness of the plastics was absurd for the price point. Yes, I get it's 'eco', but I don't want to sit in what felt a bit like a recycled paper cup.

I liked the driving position too. I get that the wheel needs to perhaps be a bit lower than 'normal' but then it's a small wheel so thats another (positive) novelty to me.

But yeah, it's not a big car inside, front, rear or boot. I think with the ID3 being a size up, it will be a much more practical proposition. (i've not sat in a ID3)

It did feel rather cramped inside, but then I guess it's not really the same size category as the iD3, although the VW is only 20cm longer and 5cm wider, it's very impressive how much interior space there is.

It's a shame, as I really really wanted to like the 208

Bumping this.

Have the peiple who had one on order received it yet? How's it going? How's the range. It's currently top of the list if I decide an EV recently ruled out a 500e recently due to the poor range in winter. Still not sold on the 208 if the truth be told. I'm not sure the range is that practical unless I accept it has to be on charge whenever it's not in use which is a difference in ownership prospect.

Currently would be able to get free charging at work but it's when not if that this is removed as they've made it clear it's a promotional thing to 'celebrate' the new chargers being available.

I'm assuming you can't simply charge it at home each night instead of relying on work chargers forevermore?

Must be a long commute if not

No experience myself, but chatted to a delivery driver in one of these yesterday. He was very negative about it. Said the range is terrible on the motorway - 100 miles or so. Said he wouldn’t have one if you paid him
