Cars worth about 12k. So I want a similarly powered car, I can trade against that's fun, fast, no compromises (like the excessive ESP / driver aids on the audi)..

I'm thinking a megan 250, but they look huge?! Clio 200? Nothing vw because we know theyre all bit dull. Could I get a low ish milage e46 m3 for that kinda money?

You should be able to get a decent low mileage S1 Elise for that money.

E36 M3 Evo, depending on the mileage you do, this is as much an investment as it is something fun and involving. Of course en E46 is more reliable newer option and you won't feel bad for driving it into the ground. If I had 12k to spend i'd go for the E36 (I am a little biased mind).

The E36 seems better if he's trying to avoid driver aids ( except ABS I presume )

I think you got it right first go... Megane 250 definitely!

I'd probably drive one and see what you reckon. They might not feel as big as you think they look. They're probably just about the right size of car but that's all subjective really.

You could look at the Clio 200 but, as much fun as they can be, coming from a TTS the power is definitely going to be a let-down. The Megane would be a much easier transition.

If you can't have fun in a Boxster, it's because you can't drive.
Indeed. I had a Cayman S for seven years. Those that say it's to easy aren't trying hard enough.

Found them a little clinical, and lacking torque, i.e. needed ringing out to get the best out of the engine and well they suffer the same issues that most 6 cyl porsches do of that era..

The Boxster and Boxster S are very different cars are they not? If you can get a Cayman S for 12k I agree that's the best shout. Boxsters (latest model aside) have always looked awkward imo.

Cant you get the TT tuned and modified to make it a bit more driver oriented ?

A Chimaera isnt really a daily unless you are pretty hardy, they can be reliable but on average, compared to a TT it may be too far in the opposite direction, S2000 might feel a bit like hard work as well after after a 260 bhp turbo.

370Z might be suitable but maybe not the kind of fun you are afte, might be over budget, 350Z well in budget.

Elise, a nice idea, great fun but getting in and out of one as a daily, need to be limber, I see the Elise as more akin to sports equipment than an actual car if you need to use it as such, shopping, passengers etc.

944 Turbo, like the Chim, perhaps mroe of a weekend car/hobby, my S2 was very needy, well, comapred to a newish Audi it was.

Boxster is a good shout.
