URGENT -About to buy approved used VW, Vcheck mileage is off
Discussion
About to buy approved used VW, Vcheck mileage is off.
Need to sort this in the morning, what would you do. Even if the 17k is wrong, it dropped to 1.1k a year for two years. This could be a 26k car being sold as an 11k car. Main dealer.

That's my thoughts as well. Maybe 1.1k a year might have been believable in 2020 if the owner had not left the house due to covid but not in 2023.(I assume the mileage the car actually shows is still around 11k, rather than that being the typo and it being 21 or 31?)
I'd be minded to either get them to change it on the records or just walk away as there's literally thousands of Golves for sale.
Speaking as a Dealer it happens all the time - get the Dealer onto it
I've got a Mini showing a discrepancy - first one was a garage inputting the same mileage one month apart and it's a nice round number
Second one was an MOT where the DVLA clearly state it was in KM yet HPi had it down as miles
Similar probably affects 10% of cars
With a late car it's easy to look on the ECUs and it will confirm if there's been any tampering you get a message such as "mileage improbable" when the dash differs from the ECU etc

Here is the full breakdown between VAG records and vcheck. Why was the first oil service done at 2k and 9 months when its due at 9k. Are VAG records (checked with another dealer) likely to be wrong??
I think as all the posts above demonstrate there are various ways to check the mileage discrepancy but whenever you come to sell the car on or trade it in the same questions will be raised all over again by whoever the trader or buyer is and it's not worth the hassle for a VW or any other mainstream car IMO
Hi OP,
I had this with a recent car I was looking into it, The millage in question is the VMC one and from what I could gather online it is an unreliable recording, it could be correct but more likely to be wrong however this can be checked and corrected by the person who currently has a hold of the car.

First service is 12 months from manufacture rather than registration I believe, cars that have sat around before being registered can find that they have less warranty and need an early service as the service time clock has been running already.Gassing Station | Car Buying | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
