Another mid-east Grand Prix
Discussion
Abu Dhabi to host 2009 Grand Prix
Although it's nominally a world championship, F1 has always been a European-based series, so this sudden rush to expand into the middle east seems a bit odd, especially if it is at the expense of places like Imola, Spa, and possibly Silverstone at some point. Bet it's another Tilke track too

I think they should stop asking tilke to design the tracks... they all end essentially the same (I'll give him some credit for turkey though).
the ones that work best are the ones where they screw up the construction and the tarmac gets bumpy.
I think its important to have historic tracks like silverstone, spa and imola. THey generally (except imola) give more exciting races too).

Why do we keep seeing more and more races being announced outside of European?
Answer is simple. Bernie is asking for crazy money from a host circuit to run the race making it impossible for European races to make any money themselves. The oil rich countries and fast growing countries such as China and India will do anything to get the race, but time will tell if their governments are happy to continue stockpiling Bernie's family trust!!!
As one of the richest men in the UK, you'd think he could cough up the money to have Silverstone rebuilt wouldn't you????

I wouldn't miss Imola. Of the current European races they should also get rid of Barcelona and Hockenhiem. I'd like to see a return to Austria - not a very exciting circuit but it produced some good races.
Also on the evidence of the 2006 race Silverstone should go. With the cars now able to take Copse and Stowe (and possibly Becketts too??) flatout there's a couple less overtaking places.

Perhaps you havent been there to watch a race, its the most incredible setting. F1 is all about heritage, none of the new destinations have this and their perfect tracks make for boring races quite unlike imola, spa, monaco & hungary.

"Ecclestone also confirmed that he wants to add night races to the championship calendar with Singapore among the leading candidates."
I'm very tempted just to give up on Formula 1 because I find the stupid changes and ideas so infuriating.
I have an idea for a change. Why dont they just leave it alone?
