Can anyone tell me if the back seats and boot in a 944 or a 968 are any more practical than in a 911 of the same era.

Thanks

Iain

Seats no, boot marginal and thats only because it's slightly larger and has the hatch access. Having owned both found very little diff.

I think the boot is rather better as it is a better shape - its shallow but very wide and long. Also the rear seats fold flat which will extend it further.

The rear seats seem pretty much the same in my view. ie useless unless you are under 6 (years old).

I used to be able to get 2 mountain bikes and camping gear for 2 in the back of my 944. Don't think you could do that in a 911, then again you may not want to.

..and if you have young youngsters the rear hatch area is a perfect changing mat. Its the right height, and sheltered from the wind and rain.

And of course they handle so much better that the a*se engined types too.....

I would also like to confirm my congratulations on a fine choice of beer

About the car; my dad had three 944's, and when we were young/small enough, we used to all squeeze in the car and go out for the day.......all six of us...... three in the back and one in the boot.

I can carry my kayak in mine... it's big but shallow (the boot, not the kayak).

I think the boot is deceptively deep, due to that big bubble hatch.easily fit a rabbit hutch in mine

In an amzing bout of one upmanship with Davyboy, I can get 6 wheels and tyres in the back of mine. Two wide rears at the back of the boot, and four narrower fronts stacked on top at the front of the boot.

Alas no pic..........yet

That's nothing! I have been away for the weekend with my two year old in mine, and fitted in all his stuff (including buggy and unfeasible number of toys) and my stuff (no toys for me ) no problem.

Anyone with children will realise this is nothing short of miraculous.

My kids (2 and 4 1/2) love going out in the 944, much preffered to the Audi estate. One in the front with the seat forward and one in the back. Gets a bit cramped when the wife is added but family outings in it are a thing of the past now number three has turned up.

Haven't tried to put too much in the boot apart from the odd occasion when buying a pint of milk at Tesco's and the afore mentioned rings and says "while your there could you also......"

I have an admission to make.

I play lawn bowls !

There I have said it, still a 968 is a bit more bowls green friendly than my modded Scoobie (very loud !)

What is the best way to stop a heavy bowls bag sliding about the back ruining the carpet ? Was thinking of bungee hooked to the metal hoops on the back seat backs.

My 944 managed (with the seatback down) my sons BMX, 3 fold up chairs, coolbox full of beer ()rugby ball, foul weather gear, baseball bat and various other odds and sods.

As the family car I used to have a 1998 Jag xj sport. I can safely say the porker boot is more practical than the jag.

The thing I find to be the most annoying is getting in/out the car as the seats are so low (then again I'm not getting younger). Guess you get used to it if it's a daily driver but I generally take the Golf...

Thanks a lot chaps.

I was thinking of it for the missus as a second fun car for her but sounds like the seats will be no better for my 3 boys (7 - 10) than on my 3.2 Carrera.

However, I might well think in the future about a 968 for me, just so (and this sounds terrible) I can keep my clubs in the boot - just can't get them in the 911 and they end up in the front seat - not really ideal.

I have to say though that this is my only complaint about the 911 - everything else is wonderful and just edgy enough to be fun at any speed.

I agree, but as mine is a daily driver, I have perfected the art (I have dodgy knees as well). I tend to use momentum to carry me out following a roll to the right, up on the right leg and off we go.

I find it pretty easy now the slide/roll/up technique is used.
