I've been offered an 03 53 anniversary 911 for £20,000 plus my boxster 2.7 987 2005/05, or would you go for the 2004 04 black C4S basic spec also for £20,000 plus the box. Niether of the cars are OPC and have 20,000 miles on. The boxster is cobalt blue, full ocean leather, sound pack, climate and wind deflector and 7,500 miles, immaculate. Both the cars are up for £50,000. Are these fair prices?

Can't comment on the prices, but I do think the Anniversary model was a very desirable special edition. Mainly the X51 power kit plus it's 2wd (= faster, lighter on its feet, more traditional 911 feel), narrow body but with turbo front end, and fully loaded makes it considerably more exclusive. Colour was a nicer shade of silver than the regular Arctic too IIRC.

Prices look in the right ball park, although 996 anniversary may be a few k too high if it's from an indie. OPC Nottingham have a car with identical mileage for £48k.

Hard choice, C4S is such a nice looking car, but the C2 will be a bit quicker.

There's an anniversary for sale with rsj at the mo too ... Unusual as there aren't too many about (onlt 1964 in total I think)
My friend has one and having driven it , it has a lot more high end acceleration compared to mine .. Sounds much better too , although I don't think it's got PSE , the 3.8 engine gives a much deeper sound .. It's also speced to the highest degree ... Definitely the preferred choice in my opinion.

The Anniversary cars have the polished shiny BLING tastic wheels, right? The wheels are a lovely design, but the shiny polished finish is badly done and gets corroded and tatty looking very quickly. Definitely check out the wheels to make sure they're in good nick.

I bought a set for my 993, was looking for standard wheels but the only ones on the market at the time were Anniversary shinies - they were too 'bling' for me and the lacquer had started to go, so I had them stripped and re-painted.

The wheel refurbishers said they couldn't refurbish the Anniversary wheels back to their original shiny finish, so don't expect it to be a £400 job to get the wheels looking pukka.

Anniversary.

Didn't actually like it when it first came out - bling wheels, odd 'look', and thought it was just a 'run out' model.

But saw one close up recently and liked it - quite rare and unusual, good spec and rwd.

I decided on the Anniversary. No regrets at all.

The bigger rear on the C4S looks better IMHO but that's the only thing. The wheels look fantastic clean and there's lots of silver trim on the inside which looks smart.

The colour is Carrera GT silver.

The power kit makes a big difference. It was still pulling well at 175mph (Autobahns) but traffic was approaching so I couldn't do a proper v max.

I love the C4S but the 40th Anniversary is just a bit more special.

Congrats on buying a great car... mine's given me heaps of enjoyment over the last 12mths.

FYI - The Anniversary Ed is a 3.6 but the engine hike gives it 345bph and, imho, a better exhaust note. 20mm lowered susp & mechanical LSD. If you want to know any more, email me as I still have the PDF spec lying around somewhere...

BTW, I notice from your pictures that your seats aren't the standard "backs painted in exterior colour" models. Do they give you any more head room (if you've tried the standard ones)?

They're the leather crested Porsche bucket seats that you get in the GT2/GT3. With the roll cage, they make the interior much more "racey". Much better support, too. Silver harnesses are the next addition i think.

Not really suitable for v long trips - anything over a couple of hours and my back starts to ache. Would be interested to know other people's opinions on theirs...

Not sure about the head room, though my flat mate had no problem sitting in it even with the sunroof and he's 6 foot 5. At a guess, I'd say they are a bit lower than the standard seats.

Word back from my pal with the anniversary , tells me he's rung the opc he bought the car from and they say it's a 3.8

Is the confusion arising between the 'millennium' and the 'anniversary' ???

I am pretty certain the Anniversary is 3.6 not 3.8. I wouldn't believe an OPC, one sales guy tried to tell me that my car didn't have turbos

I didn't think that Porsche used a 3.8 lump in any of the 996s. Thought 997 S was the first time... (except for early 911s??)

IIRC the "Millenium" edition was just a colour scheme but not really mechanically different from a standard C2.

I'd have loved to hear his reason why it develops more power than a Turbo! Did you ask? You can't have let that one slide!!

I think if I recall I was a bit stunned by what he had just said. I think I responded with something like 'I can assure you it has two pretty bigs turbos actually' He clearly didn't have an interest in the cars as such as was just a salesman.
