Autocar has been testing again. The Porsche 911GT2 at a little over £118000 vs the Tuscan S. The result - the Tuscan isn''t as quick but it''s the better sports car. Stephen Sutcliffe quotes, "even if the Porsche had done 250 mph at Bruntingthorpe it wouldn''t have delivered sufficient thrills elsewhere to beat a car as blinding as the Tuscan S." The outcome is that TVR understand it isn''t just performance that makes a sports car great. Brilliant - and it''s British - mine arrives on the 1st September - I can''t wait.

Did you notice that they had the roof off for all the photo's including the one where they're behind it on the runway? Also in the text it mentioned about the roof coming off and staying off as to was too hot for comfort inside. Hmmm now call me suspicious but it was replaced for the speed testing wasn't it? Matt

Good point, I bet it wasn't. Knowing the madmen from Autocar they would want the wind in their hair. Probably accounts for the speed difference. Might be worth sending an email to the editor to ask?

The test car did not have air-con which the majority of owners whould suggest is essential. As for you Domster, after reading a number of the TVR threads, it seems you are clued up on TVR's but always seem to have a dig at them..... ??

Has anyone heard the tale about the e-type that did 150mph? A very special e-type, that. Now, let's move that story on a few years and...oh look, deja-vu. That black Tuscan S is a "Press Car" (nudge, wink). TVR "Press Cars" are generally fairly special in the engine department. The test itself seemed fairly pointless. The GT2 is not the direct replacement for the 993 GT2, the press had already called it a tourer rather than a racer. Perhaps the best test for Tuscan S would have been a 996 GT3 - a similar balls-out car.

U r wrong. The GT2 is much more a race car as a GT3. German car magazines have also written about a spooky power increase between the press cars and the customer cars. I've heard about a 80-100 bhp gap between the cars. So TVR is not alone in the tale of bhp stories. Christof*a german with a british soul*

Good grief. GT3 was a homologation special, a lightweight screamer for GT racing. GT2 is not.

I had 2 x Porkers, the Turbo bust on the first one at 45k and on the second one the heater matrix sprang a leak at around 60k and flooded the interior with coolant. Shame 'cause it had nice carpets! I got rid of it soon afterwards before I got into a whole load of on-going repairs (once bitten twice shy eh . I Liked them both but wouldn't say they were the most reliable cars I've ever had. Probably no better or worse than either of my TVRs. Rich...

Its a shame that Porsche dealers customer service is not as good as the build quality. AFN for example are biggest bunch of idiots Ive ever had to put up with, hence not buying a Porsche and buying a TVR. I told Porsche UK this when they phoned to ask me why I had cancelled my order. They were rather stumped as almost all the authorised dealers in the South are AFN branches. I think when/if TVR ever employ someone to REALLY take hold of the quality control and customer liason (Benny boy is getting beyond a joke now) they will really start to get some respect from both owners and their dealer network. Fun and Games ;o)

I completely agree about Porsche dealers - all the ones I've spoken to have been arrogant, ignorant and just generally unpleasant, apart from one at HR Owen in Hatfield who used to work at the TVR Centre. They seem to think they're doing you, the customer, a favour by letting you look at / test drive their cars. Oh and GT3s - would be no contest. I once chased one in my Griff - it was much flatter through the bends (I had to be a bit "heroic" but not at all that fast in a straight line. My current RR Tuscan would have it for breakfast.

Forgive me again, ask Porsche or your dealer the GT2 is much more a race car as any other Porsche, e.g. fitted with uniball suspension like racecars, lightweight body, etc, etc. Don't where you get your information from. BTW. the GT3 is NOT the homologation car for GT racing. It's a replacement for the RS. Christof

I realise it's rather off thread, but "GT3" - there's a clue - was built for international GT3 racing, firstly at Le mans 2 years ago. Porsche practically created the class and advised the FIA about the rules. A finite number of race and road cars to satisfy homologation first and then customer demand. You could buy a road version with a roll cage. I know it's the spiritual son of those fantastic RSs (and RSR 964s), but Porsche built it with racing in mind. Good evening.

I noticed 17 Porsches today. I stared at 1 TVR Tuscan today and thats cos I heard it coming first! Enuff said!

Por1, I disagree..... My TVR has covered 20,000 trouble free miles and the only problem I've had is that Porkers get very upset when you beat them.

Flat sixes are fabulous, 911s look and sound fantastic - particularly 964RSRs - although they don't really need defending. TVR? Nope. Give me a late 20v ur-Quattro with a little extra boost. Sounds better than any TVR motor and it's great in the rain. 4WD being more use than a soft-top where I live. Just comfy.
