Friday again..just pondering

The 'government' is about to spend £ 7 billion on roads. Why not double the speed limit and half the time everyone is on the road....use money to buy 150,000 new cerbies which should be allowed to go at 3 times the speed limit. Ergo....clear roads again. Mind you - everyone would need a bit more practice on emergency braking! Horses would have to be banished from our roads under this scenario!
is it not time we had in this country a powerfull lobby for motoring, we contribute a vast fortune to the goverments coffers and are treated like lepors (appologies to any lepors reading this) I had to drive through central London yesterday, most roads are now 50% bus lanes and bl**dy Scameras everywhere, except of corse in accident blackspots (my road angel picks these up) The gun lobby in the states (not that i agree with US gun laws, but used as an example)frighten the us goverment from implimenting any changes to their gun laws. When petrol hit 80p a litre it didn't take much from consumers to frighten the comedians at westminster, did it?

Heard that the Tories are on again about raising the motorway speed limit to 80 and ditching speed cameras except in accident black-spots if they get back in.
What always amazes me is that you're more likely to get fined/points doing 90 in a Cerbera that's capable of the best part of 100mph faster (give or take a bonnet) & has nice big brakes than, say, 85 in a Cinquecento that's on it the limit of its top speed & hsa "aerodynamic drag" as its main braking feature.
Sorry, still bitter about getting stopped & hassled for ages by the police the other night for my car "making too much noise" (doesn't even have a sports exhaust on it... yet).

Sorry to hear that - what happened?
Better not go anywhere near where you were with mine.....
Go create some weather...

Was just driving through town at about 15MPH on Saturday evening, and there were a few officers walking down the street checking for illegal parking, etc. As I was driving towards them, they flagged me down and pointed to pull over into the entrance to an alleyway. I did this, and they said that those noise levels couldn't be legal - so I handed them all the paperwork from its last MOT (done the previous day), etc. [I'd just picked the car up from the dealer that afternoon, so had a great big folder of stuff for it] After a lengthy lecture on the disruption that such a loud car could cause in a built up area (this was town on a Saturday night - with music blaring out of every pub), they handed me a £30 fine for parking my car illegally, as the alley that they'd made me pull into was one-way.
Will be writing to the council about it, especially as they had also parked a couple of their cars illegally, forcing people to go through a no-entry sign to get out of a precinct.
I don't normally have a problem with the police being strict, certainly not in a town centre where there're loads of (drunk) people about, but this was as though they had some quota of fines to give out/were on commission.
[Edited to explain why I carry a thousand bits of paperwork in my car]

alans..some good ideas...may I take them a step further and suggest pistonheads merges with the American Rifle Association. Gun toting Bush would then fight our corner and get his sidekick to relook at our speed limits!
Can you imagine the conversation between Bush & Blair
GWB: "Tony I think you should do away with speed scameras in the UK, and raise all speed limits by 30MPH".
TB:"OK"
Damm proberbly on MI5 file now!

I seem to remember some footage on SwordFish that might make for a good campaign video.

That's crazy, how can they do that when they made you stop there??
Must be able to have that retracted?

Pointed out to them that I'd parked exactly where they'd indicated, and was told that it was up to me to find a "safe & convenient place to stop the vehicle". Got the fine paid to save on the hassle of courts, etc. but won't be letting it drop in a hurry. I'm not that bothered about a small fine, it was the attitude & double standards that really got my goat.
They're having a bloody laugh. If the indication given was to stop in an indicated location (of their choosing, not yours) how can it then be an offence of your making? If you'd sailed on by, parked in the nearest NCP 2 miles away, then walked back to find that they's since left the 'scene of the crime', what would have been the result then?
All of this completely disregarding the fact that (as far as I was aware) there is no legal dB limit applicable to cars on the road anyway.

Actually there is a legal noise limit that is part of the SVA (single vehicle approval) test, That all kitcars must pass before being registered. There are also very stringent European laws regarding drive by noise regulations for production cars as part of homologation. Hence one of the reasons why TVRs are not very popular on the continent (dont meet the requirements) This can be developed out by the use of complex exhaust systems as per fitted to the likes of the AM Vanquish and 360 Modena (most modern supercars). TVR being a very small firm doesn't have the money to invest in this type of technology (plus they make a car quiet??!!).
If j s g intends to fight this it might be worth taking a trip down to your local DVLA SVA testing station and get them to perform the SVA test. This will either disprove (or prove) the officers asertation that your car was too loud. Also the fact you were stopped at night down a main street with pubs and clubs etc is also a good arguement. I can understand how agreived you must feel though.
