Hi "qldmick" The car was unveiled at Donington Park on the 3rd of April, but did not race.

This is the current press.............

The stunning Holden Monaro is to make its British GT debut at the Irish circuit of Mondello Park, on May 8/9 in rounds three and four of the British GT Championship.

The Monaro, with its 5.7-litre, V8 engine, is built from a road car into the internationally-recognised N-GT regulations that will pitch the Aussie muscle car against the Porsche 911 GT3-RS and Ferrari 360 Modenas. The Holden Monaro made its race debut at the 2003 Bathurst 24 Hour, winning the race convincingly, the Monaros scored a one-two in last year’s race.

The Valvoline-backed car will be run by Emotional Engineering and driven by former Superbike star Kiwi Aaron Slight and reigning GT Cup Champion Matt Griffin. This will be the first race for this particular Monaro, and the first race for a Holden Monaro outside its native Australia.

Rounds three and four of the British GT Championship will take place at Mondello Park, near Dublin, on May 8/9.

Wanted...........
The HSV drivers club needs someone to supply and edit infomation for the new Racing page on the club site.

You do not need any web skills, you just need to be able to send email's with your text and pictures if poss...

So maybe "EH*ROB" OR "qldmick" or anyone!

It would be good to cover the British GT series, V8 Supercars in the main, but all racing with Holden's would be good.

Oh and you don't get paid...........................

Don't get paid?...spoilsport!
Great to see the amount of positive response the Monaro has received. A mate in Melbourne sent me a cutting from the Herald Sun two years? ago saying that Kevin Wale wanted to bring it here. I was dubious about its chances with that big ol' lump up front.
Glad I was wrong. If the Monaro is great, what about the Coupe 4,due out in Aus in June. It's even better.
The feature on it in last summers HSV mag Excelerate shows it to be a stunner.4wd,sunroof,flared arches and twin exhaust pipes at each rear corner.Bit slow though,It only does 100kph (62mph)in 6.3....on gravel!!!Bet Vauxhall won't get that one, unless you're Kevin Wale.

G'Day Paul,

Yes mate, that sounds good having a page for motor racing.
I'm only a novice, but I don't mind doing a small piece about the Monaro GT if I can, but may have to wait until I can see it racing & get some pictures. If I can handle that ok, later I could also write up about the V8 Supercars.
Will have to talk to you about it, ok.

Regards, Rob.

Can't believe you think I was serious about getting paid for info & pics. Just because I don't own one doesn't mean i'm not, nor haven't been just as passionate about them for the last seven years. Monaros,HSVs,SSs and Maloos,I love 'em all. I've been looking forward to seeing the Monaro here since it was just the VT concept car. Can't believe its actually arrived. Going to Picador tomorrow to drool.
For superb pics of V8 Supercars, try their own web site Australian V8 Supercars or V8X.com.au

Hi Paul
Just got back from Picador, one of the cars is still in protective wrap, but you can sit in it,the other one,the drivable one, was out with ' a director'. Don't know if it will be back over the week end. You may want to make sure it's there .

G'Day Guys,

Picador rang me this morning, (Sat 1st)and said the Monaro will be landing on Tuesday, a Silver one.

But from what you say here they have the car already.

I'm of there now to have a look.

Catch ya L8R,
Rob.

Yeah the Picador car is silver, but as you say Rob it's got the plastic shipping plastic over a lot of it.Superb seats and quite a lot of room in the back if the front seats are forward a tad. If you want to see a silver one GS/E, try this site, carpoint.com.au Click on used cars, then Holden then Monaro. I usually put in $30,000-$100,000, then all states. You will find every colour and type of Monaro there is,occasionally you will find one or two of the older ones too,i.e. the HKs HGs etc. While you're there you can check out the HSVs,SSs and Maloos. Some stunners mate.
Ditto Rob about getting pics on this site.
Next weeks Auto Express has a shoot out between a Monaro and Rover ZT?
Seen Pukehoke report Rob? Top ten shoot out went Skaife,Ambrose,Murph and Brighty, however the first race was a wash out. Have to look later to see if there was any racing at all today.

Just a quick PS on the Monaro today. It's a shame that we don't get the colour co-ordinated dials like the Aus ones. They just seem to finish it off somehow. The UK ones seem a bit bland. Stunning car nevertheless.
Prospective buyers can thank Kevin Wale at VX as I'm sure that bringing it here was his baby.
Paul,if the car you're going to see at Salisbury was owned by TW it could well be a Grange, the lwb Commodore executive barge, and if it is,it could be the only one in this country. He was a big noise at HSV
especially on the racing side.I'm sure the guy in Oxford who gave me the import rate for his Falcon Cobra XC used to work at TWR and he told me that TW had the only Grange in the UK.Fingers crossed for you. Presumably you'll get some pics of it.

Just checked out that '73 Monaro, I see what you mean,
it's outrageous.Works out at about £6K at todays rates.
Do you get Unique Cars sent over? There's always a few 'golden oldies'in every issue. I've got a spare '04 issue if you want it. Is it you that lives Soton way?
Let me know.

"EH*ROB" I have made a new gallery under the "Monaro/v8" page on the club web site, so your pictures are there.

By the way I will not get to drive the car at Picadors until Wed. next week but I will be down for a look at it 12.00 on Sunday if you are about?

G'day Mick,

Yes I do live in Southampton, I'm a Torana man my self, the A9X is my dream car, but the HQ Monaro runs a close second.
No I don't get the I brought Unique Cars sent over, but I did bring one back from my trip to Aus in Jan. There are some great older cars for sale in Australia and as you said with the good exchange rate they are very cheep. I would like to have a look at the issue that you have,so bring it along to the next get-together and I will bring some of my old mags. I do subscribe to Austalian Muscle Car, a very good mag with a lot about the old Torana's and Touring cars from the 60's to the 90's.You can order it from www.chevron.com.au
All the best, mate

Paul, I will look at the pic's mate. You have done a fantastic job on the web site, I'm about to finish a College course on Dreamweaver web design and hope to make my site a bit better to look at. I will have to get some tips from you. I might pop over to see you at Picador's and have a chat if that's ok. I'll be working on Wednesday but will take my camera and see if I can get over to take a pic of you driving the Moaro ok.

Catch yas L8R,
Rob.
