Well tonight I finally managed to get the heady combination of both a warm engine and semi-dry roads. Wound down the windows and explored some of 2nd and 3rd gear - the noise is un.be.lievable above 4.5k. Pure motorsport - so I've got home after a really bad day in the office - grinning like an idiot smile

Happy days!

I know it is hard to believe, but I do think the sound is actually better when you are outside of the car. Even with the windows open it just doesn’t sound the same as it does when you stand next to the car. I guess this would be different experience in Volante.

And yes, I have Fuse 22 out and I consider myself to be a lucky one as I have 8 nice tunnels between my home and work. Couple of shorter ones (<500m) and three of them are over kilometer long. Never before have I enjoyed the trip to work as much as I do now biggrin

Also take the parcel shelf out, or drive it with it folded forward, that helps with the noise appreciation I find.

Does anyone know whether the current 4.7 is significantly quieter than the pre 2008 model year 4.3 litre engine, both with Fuse 22 in, either at lower (<4000 rpm) or higher (>4000rpm valves open) revs?

And is there any difference between the two with Fuse 22 out?

Yes. 4.7 is quieter, both with and without Fuse 22.

Yes - spot on. Best value-for-money modification possible for a Vantage....

Not hard to believe. I agree.

Same was true of the other cars I've had. You get a much nicer mix of induction and exhaust noises.

Fuse 22 is coming out on Saturday - I need to make sure that when I gently ease out of my road at stupid-o-clock each day it isn't any louder than it is already. Very concious of noise pollution in residential areas in the dead of night!

Will have a play with the parcelshelf also - top tip smile

Cheers!

Ho Hum try a V8S, I honestly cannot think why I would want to change the standard exhaust. Maybe the few extra BHP and torque could be deemed desirable but, and it is a big but, my baby makes her presence felt. The landlady of our local pub is less than complimentary about my drive pasts. I remember having a Yamaha R1 with a full Yoshi exhaust, Molly and I had to have an ear defender in each ear; the prospect of doing the Alpine Tour with our Aston will be "Bloody Fantastic"

If you find it's too loud with fuse 22 out, have you considered one of the switches you can have fit?

I find it very difficult to drive from outside the car. Perhaps there's some trick to it.
