My DB9 date of first registration is 1rst May 2005.

Since owning the car it has always started on first push of the start button and at this time the battery appears to be fine.

On checking the service history and bills from previous AM dealerships however , it seems the battery is the original.

This being the case I do wonder how much longer it can carry on.

A casual enquiry at my local AM dealership as to the cost of supply and fitting a new battery resulted in a quote of £374 .

Anyone on here fitted a new battery ? If so does the CPU need part re-programming after fitment ? Anyone know the Cold Crank Rating for a DB9 battery ?

I've got a Feb '06 DB9 and just preemptively replaced the original battery. Having had the battery on my XK8 expire promptly on its 5th anniversary, I didn't want to have to deal with a dead car in the garage again.

The DB9 battery was about $500 CDN installed by the dealer, and they either re-calibrated the seats & windows for me or did something to keep it powered while making the change. Took less than an hour.

The average life for a lead acid car battery is about 4 years.

I replaced my battery late last year on a June 2004 car. It was fine until it went away for some work and two weeks later came back with a weak battery (wondered why it was running when I came to pick it up).

Anyway bought one from eBay for £66 delivered. It is a VARTA battery but was OEM Black and identical to the original except it had no vent tube. I fitted it in about half an hour just requires a little dismantling under the drivers rear seat. It was a new battery by the way and also I have fitted VARTA batteries to other cars and trust them.

This is the battery I fitted (except mine was all black like the original)

The car now has no issues with starting and always cranks strongly.

My car is an 06, jut replaced the battery. I'd let it die twice and it wasn't holding anymore than a few days charge so thought I'd be better safe than sorry.

If Bamford Mike could post what it is, I >think< it was slightly better than the OEM battery.

I'm not in a position to trickle charge frown

Did you replace it with a lightweight racing style one? Could make even better use of all the performance mods to come smile

I think for my use of the car, i.e. often leaving for 2-3weeks at a time, it woulnd't have been the best option for me. Also they're 6-7 times the dosh aren't they!?

I'd love a lightweight battery, lightweight seats, remove the rears and so on but the Aston is a heavy car to start with and makes no concessions. It's power with luxury I want, not a stripped out mentalist!

I was walking home musing about getting a Cat D DB9 cheaply and stripping it for racing in the AMOC league. Probably quite cost effective if I could find a broken manual coupe. Rip out the interior, airbags, CD changer etc, you could knock 100s of kilos off. Suddenly 450bhp + BR's exhaust system becomes more than adequate!

and surely sticking all the removed stuff on ebay would generate a decent amount of the cost back.... (says the guy with lots of random car/music/dvd/electronics needing selling and doing nothing about it)

I thought something like a lightweight battery would help reduce mass whilst keeping the luxury. Probably wouldn't make any a difference on a car of the DB9s weight, but lets face it, if you wanted a lighter car you wouldn't have gone for the volante in the first place smile

A Cat D DB9 would make an awesome track day car. I've been considering buying a Renaultsport Clio and stripping it out / tuning it up for track days, but don't really have the time yet.

Why the hell would anyone have a battery fitted by an Aston main dealer......are you mad or just bloody lazy (or very rich smile).....i had a new battery fitted 2 years ago by my local battery specialist for £89

just out of interest do you take your car back to the main dealer to check your tire pressure or oil level or perhaps have them fill it up with petrol for you

At that price, they must be those special solid gold batteries, with diamond encrusted contact postshehehehe

What I am trying to establish is this.

1.When the battery is disconnected, and another reconnected, do any of the on board computer systems need re-flashing ?

2.What is the cold cranking amps requirement for a DB9 battery ?

Yes to point 1. you will need to re-set the seats and the windows - see this link

800A+. I think mine is 830A and a Varta.

Perhaps if you found a dealer that let you supply your own battery. Like they do with oilrolleyes

with all you help, and a bit of research googling, it would appear that a Varta H3 battery with 830 cold cranking is the one...

however contacted AM just before ordering, and they said they have special shaped batteries with AM on the side.. be aware of the normal ones being supplied...

so help needed please, experiences of your purchases etc...
