Would you go for the 2.5 Twin Turbo or the 4.0 V8?

A timely question... I was looking at the Twin-Turbos yesterday but I'd like a V8 more...

Bloody 'ell that was quick guys!

Which do you reckon would be quicker? Mind you, its designed as a GT isnt it? Kind of an LS400 coupe?

looked into these a while ago the 2.5 TT is the same engine from the mk3 supra and is quite similar to the 3.0TT engine found in mk4 supras. The 2.5 has some strong engine internals and can easily be tweaked to closer to 400bhp with some bolt ons. I also think only the 2.5TT has a manual version(rare as rocking horse poo tho). So I'd pick the 2.5TT

A V8 with a straight-through exhaust. Next question?

V8 starts at 260hp / 260lbs ft (for the soarer) and is apparently pretty tweakable, with 300hp not too far away for not as much as you would think (if thats your bag).

V8 has better mpg also, apparently, though this will depend largely on how heavy your right foot is. IUZ-FE engine (V8) is a stonker, significantly lighter than the iron block 6-cylinder and is pretty much bulletproof. I would think you could get a hold of a manual / box and fit (mk3 Supra bolts up I think).

Try the links below. Its in one of those links, cant remember where though, but a couple of guys with mk3 Supra's have done this conversion. The V8 sounds amazing, why have a huffing and puffing 6-cylinder when, with a few choice mods, you can have a reliable muscle car. Food for thought.

Is it just me that thinks 260hp is a pretty pathetic amount for a V8?

A bit of debate - excellent.

They dont strike me as the best handling car though - bit of a barge?

Yeah but, no but.......

260hp aint too much for a car this size, but its a very under-stressed engine I believe = easy to get more hp out of (with this engine apparently).

Huffing and Puffing refers to the two turbos. From a pure speed down a straight road, I would think the a tweaked twin-turbo car would be quicker then if you spent the equivalent cash on a NA engine, but for me personally, not having driven one ofcourse If I was in the market for a soarer, I would prefer the rumbly V8 sound track, in lets face it, a car for 'crusing about in' ie, you wouldn't attack a B-road in it.....

I suppose its a similar debate to the other thread about MR2 Tubby vs MR2 V6. What ever takes your fancy I suppose.....

ps. Maybe Peter should have stuck with V8's rather than those Straight 6's.....

I'll let you all know shortly...

Got a 2.5 Manual to it into my GZ20 Soarer (earlier version) will be transplanted in in the next few weeks, after all steel turbo's go on & some fuelling mods. Should be good for nearly 400bhp

Lol Gaz, with a few choice mods that V8 is pretty much unbeatable. A very very underestimated powerplant indeed.
Cant find the link, but theres a guy in the states pulled over 2000bhp out of one on the standard crank. .....

The V8 is a great engine but there is a distinct lack of quality tuning parts for it from what I have seen

Do a Google for "Mycroft Soarer" or something similar - the posts on various forums under "Mycroft", and is a bit of a character but it would seem that what he doesn't know about Soarers isn't worth knowing.....

Mycroft is well known from old, but "bit of a Character" is the politest thing I have ever heard the guy called

He's never actually said anything offensive to me personally, and having read many of his posts on other forums, I don't understand how he manages to get so many people's backs up.

I wonder if he posts on PH
