Any one got one had one know any horror stories about them or shall i just bite the bullet and risk it.

It will be my daily driver, currently an Alfa gtv so I can put up with it being a little tempremental.

Well, you might be ok then.

I've long thought about getting one at some stage. I know someone who has two (that he's selling) and had the chance to get in the driver's seat of one for the first time. Unfortnately, too small for me at 6'2" frown

I recall Mr Clarkson drivng his wifes citrus green/yellow example on one of his videos and his head stuck out quite a long way as it seems to do on the most the convertibles he samples!

I love these smile But im 6ft2 also, so would likely not fit very comfortably in one I suppose frown
LHD only however (I'd forgive it that if I fitted in! Otherwise its one of the very few cars i'd live with LHD for), and also are largely based on E30 325i mechanicals if I remember rightly. So a bit dated, but otherwise good generally.
I think they look amazing.. It's such a nice design that hasn't really dated much at all. Rare too, but not stupidly rare that you can't find one for reasonable money, considering.
If you don't mind importing one from somewhere like Germany you'll likely find a few a bit cheaper than you would here too.

importing on is not a bad idea, after all as you say there all left hookers.
I will get seriously on the case and let you know what I come up with.
I will get my mitts on those doors one day soon.

You can read about my experiences with my Z1 here:

I think it is a wonderful toy and wouldn't swap it for anything (well perhaps a 300SL Gullwing!). I used mine as a daily driver for a while but don't any more since I now have other cars and also live between two countries. But it's quite capable of it thanks to the fact that they are mechanically uncomplicated and based largely on the E30 3-Series (but with an E36-style rear Z-axle). Not especially quick but it doesn't need to be - the sensation of speed driving with the doors down is much enhanced in any event so you can have great fun at comparatively slower speeds. The engine sings a good tune and the handling is very good.

Lots of info on the Z1 board on www.zroadster.net.

I'm 6'3" and fit okay in one when I tried it. Only sat in it though, didn't drive it, so it might be a different story then. Still, I loved the controll and instrument layout and I always prefer LHD cars anyway! tongue out

Depends whether you have long legs or a long body. The former isn't an issue - the latter can have you peering over the header rail.

Nice engine but the interior looks a bit rough. Trim on a Z1 can be expensive to put right.

Certainly if you want to keep the OE look.... But the OE seat trims are, depending on your point of view, cool or nasty. Myself, I fall in the latter camp, which makes retrimming cheaper!

But that car looks extremely 'rough'and un-original???

I must confess...when I clambered into one the other week it was with the roof up so the combination of the deep sills and low roof did conspire against me somewhat. Plus I've neither personally ever owned nor been in for the past 20 years a small two-seater....so maybe it would be 'ok'...

Can you tell I'm STILL trying to convince myself one is an option? laugh

Derin - have you stopped doing your concours number on various interesting BMWs now? Seems ages since the last one was for sale on your site (which happens to be in the "cars" section of my favourites...).

Personally, I like the OE seats and trim.

Since that's your car unless I'm much mistaken, that's not really a surprise! The light grey leather is certainly an improvement on the lemon or the grey alcantara/camo leather options, but tis pretty damn rare.

Well (ironically) I put this on my website very late last night: (clicking on any thumbnail will take you to the full "Gallery":

http://www.bmwclassics.co.uk/e34_525i/

AND I might finally have this finished very soon and be able to put it up for sale:

http://www.bmwclassics.co.uk/gallery/index.php?spg...

(p.s neither is accessible through the main website yet)
