...It's been a big mountain to climb. More photos will be added of "before, during and after" but meantime:

After seeing that I think you Sir are certifiably nuts....but bloody well done, that is absolutely perfect and I want it. BUT did I spy a M5 tucked away under the tree waiting for the same treatment???

Good man.

Many thanks!

But no... what you saw/see under the tree is another M535i (1987 car) which acted as a donor for numerous smaller parts...but is (in itself) in no way retreivable and is destined for the great scrap-yard in the sky.

That looks fantastic, you don't do things by half!!

Would love to see the before pics, especially the engine bay.

Thanks Guys!

I wouldn't go quite that far Neil laugh But thanks! It may also be the last of this era now that I'll ever do. I'm not doing that again...this one was a killer. And it doesn't even belong to me!

I still have my '89 E32 735i that I'd like to get really nice...but that'll be a really easy project as it only has 48K miles on the clock and I've owned it since it had 26K miles and I've already got it mechanically perfect.

I disagree. Okay so the motor will have some miles on it but the engine bay, the paintwork (no swirl marks) etc make it better looking than it did coming out of the factory.
Those who buy new cars and get 10 or so hours of detailing create a better finish on the paint that BMW themselves could never aspire to.

The car doesn't actually belong to me. I've just done it for someone else.

The owner has owned it for 18 years (and is very attached to it) having bought it from his brother (in 1990) who had bought it new, I believe.

Although the Automatic gearbox isn't unusual on an M535i (many were spec'd thus with the switchable gearbox)the car was usually spec'd in another regard in that it was an M535i complete with bodykit but unusually spec'd with 'Comfort with Armrest' front seats rather than the usual 'Sports'seats.

I dread to think what this quality of restoration would cost at commercial rates. It would make some of my bills from Roger Clark Motorsport seem laughable. The car now appears factory fresh

LOL!

Nah...haven't packed a thing yet! laugh
Spent the morning (and all day yesterday actually) still treating the great unwashed British public on the first two days of my hols! This morning I get up to come in to do their operations for them...only trouble is...more than half of the f%ckers can't be arsed to do the same and get out of their beds...so they don't bother coming in!

Be weird to see what Le Mans is like when no one else is there, huh?

Enjoy Gaydon!

Ok...as requested but not necessarily in the tightest of orders (in fact it's all over the place!)...here's a small selection (some captioned) of "before" and "during" photos

GOVERNMENT HEALTH WARNING!....They may carry serious 'snooze value' if the Slideshow option is selected! Do not watch whilst driving or operating heavy machinery!

I didn't personally...but someone else did!

In fact, my bodyshop hired in a specialist guy specifically to do just that. The same guy that did my Polaris Silver E28 528iSE.

Thereafter...front wings, bonnet, front valance and sills were all replaced with new. The rear lower panel and sunroof panel had previously been replaced. The only part not repainted thereafter was the roof.
