Well over the past year, I have reduced my love for cars to like and really fancy the freedom of a bike.
So I have signed up for a DAS test next week, oh to be back to school ...

Nice one Gareth - you'll not regret it. As my mate says, 4 wheels move the body, 2 wheels move the soul smile

Any particular bikes in mind once you pass?

Let me guess - BMW R1200GS? wink

Do yourself a favour and try the new Triumph Tiger. Hughendon on the M40 are nice and local too. OK - it's chain drive, but it does everything the 1200GS can do, for less money and handles more like a sports bike smile

Far too many Ewan McGregor/Charlie Boorman wannabe's on the road as it is hehe

yes

I was thinking the same thing. I imagine that they all got round the boardroom table discussing 'damage limitation/potential disaster' etc.

Despite the breakages of the BMWs they still did a good job.

I distinctly heard a big 'Doh!' with an Austrian accent when the series aired wink

Dropped into a a motorbike shop today and it was like Little Britain... " I want that one"

So new helmet, glove and boots later I have a permanent grin on my face ...

Good stuff, though I hope you got a good reduction on the glove - I prefer two myself...

Actually I don't think they do... As someone who actually has ridden a KTM round the world (a 950 ADV) I can catagorically say they would have destroyed them before they got to the end of the trip. Good bikes, but far too highly strung as a RTW bike. The KTM wouldnt have survived all the drops... For that purpose, assuming you want a big bike you simply can't beat a BMW. Doing it again I'd go on a 250 dirt bike or something of that type.

As for bikes, don't rate the new Tiger - just a road bike in semi drag - and if you want to go any distance on and off road it isnt the bike. If you want a beamer, get a beamer, anything else will be a disappointment. I'vr got an old 100 GS and its the only bike I'll never sell...

After you have had a tiger it would be sold as a toothless moggy, never raced, rev'd or wheelied

Gareth, avoid triumphs like the plague, IMHO they still haven't fixed the reliability issues, which is a shame as i really like the look of the daytona frown
